I gave my thoughts on the main Mortal Kombat thread, but I will make an additional comment here.

The plot is just a repeat of the last movie only it seems they actually be doing the tournament. Johnny Cage will be in Cole's role after he dies: learning about the in-universe lore, training, doubting himself, and finally overcoming it. IIRC Cole was originally made because the filmmakers didn't want "another white guy saving the day" even though they could have used Liu Kang like in the 90s movies. Only to make Cage the lead, again instead of Liu Kang, since he was a central character in MKX.

Yawn another movie without stakes.

Everyone but Sonya and Kitana are dead by the end but the power of friendship (FRIENDSHIP?!) will resurrect them in a future movie.

Did people really like the first movie? It wasn't god awful, but Kano carried it on his shoulders and god it's so stupid how their powers are stress-based.

I can't handle the amount of ass Mortal Kombat content lately. Not going to lie. Mortal Kombat 1 (2023), was a huge disappointment and let down. I'm not ready for the bullshit that will be ANOTHER mainstream Mortal Kombat movie that's going to bomb. Karl Urban is also just..such a dogshit choice for Johnny Cage imo.

The only thing I liked about the first movie was the, kinda(?), decent Goro CGI. Other than that I don't rewatch this movie unless im especially bored.
