The Human Rights Campaign says 25 is the highest number of such deaths ever recorded in a year. In 2016, at least 23 transgender people were killed, the group says.

“People are being murdered for who they are,” said Kelly Taylor, assistant director of the LGBT Center of Raleigh, the sponsor of the vigil at the Capitol. “The violence seems to be increasing.”

The vast majority of trans murders in the last several years are domestic disputes, gang warfare casualties, and prostitutes. Maybe 1-2 per year of them are the classic "pickle surprise/trans panic" case, if that. And given the prevalence of trans people in the US population, they have a slightly lower than expected mortality rate. At this point all the "trans murder epidemic" propaganda is suggesting that trans people should somehow be immune from the social ills that apply across the rest of society, like getting knifed by your angry boyfriend for cheating or getting shot because your john doesn't want to pay you for the blowjob.

A recent study suggested there were about 1 million trans in the U.S. That means the murder rate of trans is 2.5 per 100k. The murder rate of everybody is 4.9 per 100k as of 2015. So you are still looking at a lower homicide rate than the general population.

The reason all this fawning occurs is that they are lowest on the progressive stack so they get dawned over. Their murder rate is half that compares to the US and this is regardless of race.
