Boys, they've finally announced Wilds' MR extension. We're finally kicking elder dragon ass.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=URrMx-2l_ek
We'll have to wait until 2027 to finally determine whether Wilds finally turns out great or remains mid.
I've said since Day 1 that this game was tailor made for Elders and I'm being vindicated so hard. And I'd bet money we'll get a couple Title Updates during the expansion that add some more.

Gemma has Khezu on her Keychain now Hint hint. Changed her hair, now she looks kinda dyke-ish.

The Nata inspired hunter in the beginning freaked me out at first, thought they were doing a "and now he takes the reigns" thing. Glad I'm just retarded. That would have been terrible.

Lao is a genuine wtf, but a welcome one. Just a fat fuck you gotta beat on. Meat & Potatoes ass monster.
I can already feel the salt being mined for Kushala, and I can't wait. He's one of my favorite Elders, but it never feels good without the other two.

I'm not feeling the new gimmick I'm seeing in the trailer after watching those bits a few times. Looks like Nero's sword revving from DMC4. Like you're overclocking your weapon for faster moves or more combos.
I feel like a fuckin dinosaur but we don't always need to keep speeding shit up or adding a new gimmick to every expansion. Just refine the mechanics you already have and expand on those, quit adding new layers to a cake that's still half baked.

I watched the newest trailer for the remake of Dynasty Warriors 3. Some of the key features are "dashing", "calling your mount" and "blocking". DW3 was so fucking clunky; you couldn't re-direct attacks mid-swing (like in MH I guess), but even just that makes combat so much more calculated. Having iframe cancels and shit in MH just feels off, but I guess it fits in with my one major gripe with the game: The endgame always being hyper omega speedy one-hit wyverns.

This doesn't even look like a monster hunter location, if you cut out the monsters and told me this was from the new Dragon Quest game, I would believe you. When Wilds first came out I complained that it looks more like Final Fantasy than a Monster Hunter game, and this really just multiplies the issue 100 fold. Floating islands belong in Dragon Quest, or Final Fantasy, or literally any other high fantasy-ish setting, not Monster Hunter.

Doesn't help that when they did the FF collab it didn't feel too out of place, this is not a good thing. World did one too but at least they used an actual bestial monster instead of a big ass robot.

I wouldn't mind floating islands too much, it just depends on why it's floating. We've got monsters that fucked with gravity through whatever means before, probably some new Elder Dragon. It's not too crazy to see floating islands given how over the top a few locations (and especially monsters) are. I do get what you mean, this is probably the only time MH has done something this over the top in terms of maps (I could be wrong) but given that this is not a mainline game (nor a good game that some of us have no investment in) I wouldn't worry too much about it.

People speculate we'll get this (poor) monster which I highly doubt, would be fitting for a meh monster to be in a shit game.

I didn't mind the Final Fantasy and the Witcher crossovers in World cause they felt like their own self contained thing. Like I could separate that off in my mind from the rest of the game as non-canon stuff they did for fun. With this I really can't cause it's gonna be a main map, you are forced to interact with it and accept it as a thing that actually exists in the context of monster hunter. It kind of feels like if they put a Toyota Tacoma in LOTR and said "You'll accept fire breathing dragons, why won't you accept this.". I do agree that Wilds is absolute dogshit and I can pretend it doesn't exist, which is why I'm more confused than annoyed about it.

Fair enough, at least with the FF and Witcher events you can just treat them as it never happened. Well, with Witcher it's harder since multiverse shit is canon with Ciri (and then they fuck that up by not including said multiverse traveler as an actual NPC).

Love this argument, it pisses so many people off.

Nigger this is a setting where a bug can puppeteer scrap into a giant golem body for itself, dragons with jet engine wings exist, and has bipedal cats that can use weapons/cook/talk. Nothing we've seen so far is out of place.

I will not tolerate this Yama Tsukami slander.

That stuff is fine cause in the context of Monster Hunter, I can suspend my disbelief enough that the biology of this world allows for it. The point of elder dragons is very specifically that their biology is ramped up to 11 as they are supposed to represent natural phenomena. The problem I have with this is that they're basically just adding magic to the game under the guise of "muh ancient technology".

Wilds is on sale on steam right now for like 30 bucks. Is it worth it to pick this game up now that they've announced an expansion?
The trailers and 'open world' didnt really sell me, and I didnt particularly like the visual style of World all that much. Did they at least make the gear look interesting in Wilds?

I've been enjoying Rise on PC lately after already getting to like MR120 on switch, but I've been itching to fight some different mons.

if you have an amd gpu, no. it crashes constantly on amd, at least on my machine with a 9070xt (i've seen many other people on steam and reddit with various amd gpus saying the same thing, but it also seems to be fine for others), despite running well in terms of fps and smoothness now. if you're not on amd and you like rise's gameplay style then i'd suggest it, it plays like a blend between world and rise (imo anyway). the gear designs are much better than world, yes. the new monsters are great. it's even easier than rise until the endgame content, however

Sure, it’d be even better if you got it from a viable keygen site.
But the optimization sucks and be prepared to be harassed with dogshit story and worse characters. I’m not kidding, it’s unbearable and relentless. You will just want to hunt, and the game will punish you for it for a long time.

I went ahead and snagged it. I look forward to hours of unskippable cutscenes full of ethnically unidentifiable characters and the occasional monster hunting.

the story sucks but its like 10 hours out of a 50+ hour game, it's really not that bad (though i could still do without it). the game has its issues and questionable design decisions but if it doesn't crash constantly on your system it's still monster hunter and fun at its core

I am amazed and grateful that so far literally everything is skippable.

I have no inherent issue with cutscenes, but I want to spend more time hunting than watching. World was abysmal about that.
I've only fought the first frog monster but I'm enjoying it so far. It has none of the clunkiness that World has.

I'm a few hours in, made it to the lava monkey fight after the exploding forge bit.

Can confirm this game is wayyy too easy in the early game, but its still fun. I'm liking the changes to the bow and bowguns, and having new insect monsters is nice, the Lala Barina is pretty cool. The hub areas still feel cluttered and kind of devoid of personality, but are generally less annoying to traverse. The weapon/gear designs are actually good, though I dont know how to feel about brain-in-a-jar palico armor...speaking of palicos, they finally added a fluffy version so I am able to perfectly replicate my irl cat, which is nice.

So unbelievably grateful for the cutscene skipping because oh my god there is too much story. Who are all these strange natives that they're begging me to care about and why is there no cute quest maiden.
I hope we never find the little Indian boys' village and I hope he gets eaten.

Rise had it right; "Hey pal, the cozy place you live in is getting fucked up by the rampage and this big purple guy (and some weird flying snakes we dont know about) so go kill those guys. Here's a dog and some Spiderman powers. Get to it"
