Back in the old days, before Steve Jobs' plan to destroy the world forever went in motion in full swing and we still had phones that were good, one of the form factors of QWERTY phones took up half of the front of the device. On a smartphone, that's where your on-screen keyboard shows up. It's the only way to comfortably write on a smartphone as a landscape keyboard would completely eat up the entire screen space and all you'd have visible would be a thin text box.

There was also another form factor that would make perfect sense in modern day smartphones:

A physical horizontal QWERTY keyboard that slides out. You have all the screen space of horizontal web browsing, and a horizontal physical keyboard which is the more natural form for it as that's how it was ever since the typewriter was invented. But of course, Steve Jobs despised technology working for the user so his plan of "everything is a touch screen" is what ultimately everyone has succumbed to, and I sincerely hope that narcissistic egotistical prick is boiling in the most rancid excrement pit of Gehenna for what he has done to humanity.

Physical buttons on phones were always terrible and I really wonder what the fuck kind of grotesque shaved-down pencil fingers/thumbs people have to press those tic-tac keys. Swipe touch keyboards are the only way anyone with man-sized hands can reasonably use a phone - even that's a pain in the ass a lot of times.

I am usually a degenerate phoneposter out of convenience, it's easy to covertly shitpost at work. The keyboard on my phone works better with a portrait orientation, but-

My favorite phone I've ever had was the Pantech Renue, the slide-out keyboard on that was great and it was the perfect little shitposting square. I like the quality of the camera on my current phone and wouldn't want to downgrade, but the internet was more fun when it was a struggle to navigate on mobile. I used to post on forums from the original Samsung Flight, THAT was a pain in the ass.
