Missouri lawmaker introduces bill that would require AR-15 ownership

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – A bill introduced in Missouri would require residents to own AR-15 guns.
Andrew McDaniel (R-Deering) introduced House Bill 1108 late last month. The bill would establish the McDaniel Militia Act, “which requires every person between 18 and 35 years of age who can legally possess a firearm to own an AR-15 and authorizes a tax credit for a purchase of an AR-15.”

According to the proposed bill, any person who qualifies as a resident on Aug. 28, 2019 who does not own an AR-15 would have a year to purchase one. In addition, anyone who becomes a state resident after Aug. 28, 2019 would have no later than a year to purchase an AR-15.

The bill was introduced for the first time and read on Feb. 27.

In addition, McDaniel filed a bill that would require every person 21 years of age and older to own a handgun if they are legally able to. That bill, House Bill 1052, was introduced two days prior to House Bill 1108.

According to the Missouri House of Representatives website, neither bill is currently scheduled for a hearing or on a House calendar.

I think Switzerland has a law like this, but it's kind of unAmerican to make people own things, Then again, tax credit for cost. Very bizarre thing to wake up to.

I think the way it works over there, after being discharged from the mandatory military service, all male citizens are automatically transferred to the reservist corps, and they are issued a service rifle that they must keep in the home so they can be mobilized at a moment's notice in case of national emergency. But the citizen does not have to directly pay out of pocket for the rifle, outside of the tax burden associated with the state's procurement of the rifle.

Okay... but why? Why would you mandate people to own an AR (not like I object, but ... y'know...)?

What is the penalty for none compliant citizens? I can’t imagine cops raiding some dudes home to make sure he owns gun.

I now envision a SWAT team, breaking down some dude's door, holding him at gunpoint, he yells "I'm unarmed", someone goes "We know!", jimmies open a file cabinet, jams an AR between a couple of folders, dumps a can of ammo into the cabinet for good measure and the SWAT team storms out as quickly as they came.
