Ariel Kornienko recieved a shocking slap on the wrist sentence yesterday.
ARIEL KORNIENKO (“KORNIENKO”), age 43, a resident of Covington, Louisiana, was sentenced to 9 months of imprisonment and 6 months of home detention, followed by 3 years of supervised release, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee, after previously pleading guilty to distributing animal crush videos, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 48(a)(3).
Recently came across an account on TikTok called LabGerm where the creator is performing cruel and disturbing experiments on pleco fish in a laboratory setting. For example, one video involves a pleco fish being “fed” fire ants forcibly with a funnel. Another example is a pleco fish’s brain being surgically removed and replaced with apple snail eggs with the intention of just observing what would happen. Christ.
Two of the most bizarre aspects of this content is that 1) it’s all still uploaded and viewable on TikTok and 2) this content has seemed to create a fandom of people who defend/hype up the content because said fish or snails being experimented on are invasive. While fish and invertebrates don’t seem to strike the same empathy chord in people, the content of the videos is cruel and disturbing to say the least. It reminded me a lot of this thread and made me wonder if there is crossover between these groups. Working on archiving the content but for the most part it seems tiktok is not interested in removing any of the videos since they are not mammals being harmed.

My only guess with Ariel's sentence is that she ratted on a bunch of people. The terms of her plea agreement were sealed, as was the memorandum in aid of sentencing. This is similar to how the list of people Michael Macartney squealed on was also censored. We'll see what happens.
A sentence this lenient is inexcusable, regardless of any sob story Ariel concocted or the names she may have provided. I believe this meets the definition of making a deal with the devil. I couldn't do it, but shout to the prosecution team that proudly did so and the judge who sanctioned it.

There needs to be a vulnerable victim enhancement in these cases, like they have in cases involving children or mentally disabled people. Unfortunately the law hasn’t come far enough yet to recognize the legal personhood of animals to that degree. If this isn’t a vulnerable victim, I don’t know what is.

I find this really interesting. I can understand the odd complete degenerate, sort of in the same way that serial killers exist, but the sheer amount of people with seemingly normal lives that are into this is completely shocking to me.
I don’t know what it is. Maybe there is something about the distance a screen gives reducing empathy. But I don’t know if this is true. We cry when ET is pale and in the river.
It is strange because I think humans by nature and nurture have a strong leaning to protect the weak and the vulnerable. Perhaps there is some sort of power addiction that comes from seeing something you have complete control over that can’t possibly hurt you, be in distress. I really don’t know but it’s something that interests me as it seems so far out of mean of human nature from my perspective but is seemingly not.
That’s actually hilarious. Perhaps that quote would have been buried somewhere in the memo and not right at the top if Ravelo hadn’t spent his last bit of free time creating AI cartoon depictions of the prosecutors assigned to his case.

Holy shit, this is staggering. So many times I had to rub my eyes and look twice like “wait, are those my archives? I know that screenshot?”.
At least one person in one screenshot was an informant lmao. Like, literally there to run chat exports and get them to NGO’s. I can only imagine they exported his groups after he got busted.
I didn’t know about Tony’s Witches at all. And if there was an informant in there, I had no idea. But I’m guessing there wasn’t, which again suggests his groups were all active when he got busted. This lines up with what they said about him being remorseless and showing no signs of being interested in stopping.
