The visuals are amazing and live rent-free in my head. The film is better than 99% ov movies today and so old you can watch the entire thing in public domain!

Overview (which reminded me of the 100th anniversary)

>According to (Fritz) Lang, propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels called Lang to his offices to inform him that The Testament of Dr. Mabuse was being banned but, nevertheless, he was so impressed by Lang's abilities as a filmmaker (especially Metropolis), that he offered Lang the position of head of German film studio UFA.

Basically a sci-fi version of Frankenstein with a political twist that's more fitting now than when it was originally released. Sadly if it were ever remade, it would just be a feminist shitshow.

Remembering seeing parts of the anime when I was 12. Stayed with me because the first time I saw a sad ending to an animation.

Might check it out later. What's peoples opinions on the colorised remaster with the Queen soundtrack?
You cannot beat the majesty of the original soundtrack.

I like how they keep discovering and restoring additional bits of lost and cut footage every few years since the 2000s, so the Yoshiwara red-light district sequences and Thin Man subplot can be appreciated in almost their full entirety.

The Thin Man subplot has to be one of the earliest film depictions of the spy/espionage/secret agent archetype.

Something, something you will own nothing and you will be happy whilst Klaus gets to sit on top of his tower of Babel.

the gimmick ones like the Moroder are interesting as their own things, but yeah there's no reason to go with anything other than the modern restored to see it for the first time

over the years it was a hell of a thing to see the fugly pd print of the 90s to the Kino restoration from 00 with the "there was a big plot about Hel here, but we have a photo. you're welcome" to the print that belonged to nobody in particular that surfaced in South America

also the novel is worth checking out, iirc it's sorta like 2001 where Thea Von Harbow wrote it more concurrent to the movie's development more than MOVIE THE BOOK or BOOK THE MOVIE but it's a nice take on the story, and for a long time was IT for finding out about Yoshiwara and that guy

you're right, it was Giorgio Moroder. I had it in my head it was Queen for some reason. I should've known this, I'm partial to a bit of Moroder.

ngl I wasn't sure if Queen didn't do something too, they did a lot of stuff with imagery from Metropolis iirc
Their music video for Radio Gaga is an homage

This is actually where I first saw Metropolis footage as a kid, with a kickass soundtrack.
