The full Child Tax Credit is $2000 per child, but only $1500 is refundable. She'd have to actually owe taxes to get the full $2000 tax credit, but she can have zero income (after deductions) and still pocket $1500 per kid.

There are other programs that provide assistance to low-income families, like child support, SNAP, and WIC.

Child support is state-specific, so I'm not really sure what the process would be... I'd assume she'd have to go to court for each child in order to get some amount; she'd then be entitled to monthly payments until the child turns 18 (or 20, if they're still unmarried, living with the custodial parent, and making "substantial progress" toward a diploma in some full-time secondary or vocational education program). I believe this would be paid by the state, which would normally go after the father to try to extract child support from him. With Marshall being dead and leaving no real assets against which the state could try to levy child support, I think the state would continue paying and would simply hold an ever-growing back child support debt that Marshall's nonexistent estate will never repay.

SNAP, or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, used to be called food stamps, but now they use an electronic debit card. Qualified households will have a gross monthly income less than 130% of the Federal poverty line, net income (income less deductions) below the Federal poverty line ($50,560 for a household of 8), and liquid assets not greater than $2,750 (more if there's a disabled family member over 60, but this doesn't apply). Child support income is counted for purposes of determining SNAP eligibility.

WIC, or the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, only applies for children up to their 5th birthday. This program is federally funded by grants to state agencies which operate the program. To qualify, Melinda would probably visit a free WIC clinic where a health professional (physician, nurse, or nutritionist) would determine whether there were medical-based or dietary-based conditions. A "dietary-based condition" can be as simple as "poor diet," so in addition to providing breastfeeding resources or formula, this program can provide low-income families with money to buy healthier foods.

And there are probably a bunch more programs. Those were just the main ones that I'm aware of.

Under religious law, that's true, but under secular law, courts (especially in New York) have been denying relief to husbands who maliciously withhold the get as an extortion tactic unless they drop that bullshit. However, an actual law directly targeting the Get was fairly recently found unconstitutional (under the free exercise clause I believe), so a court can't directly order a husband to issue one.

Also recently (2020), an actual husband tried to sue over his wife's refusal to accept a get, essentially blocking his ability to get a religious remarriage after the divorce, and did not succeed.

There is very limited recourse for a malicious refusal to grant a get (which is incidentally the Jewiest thing I have ever seen).

Lets not forget that Melinda gave a get to Marshall over a dozen times, thereby religiously divorcing him. Not that he cared, he knew full well that Melinda would stick around to get buttfucked and sponge shelter from him.
