Is buying an everygunpart AR upper just to change a barrel stupid or should I just buy everything individual? I want to build a 7.62x39 AR upper, I am only considering buying a "parts kit" cause it seems more economical. Especially since I can just swap bolt heads, and maybe reuse the gas tube

OH Christ I hate saying this. Everygunpart is full of evidence locker to chop ups/dept no longer approved for duty guns. Like group buys of surplus guns from 10-20 years ago, gun groups would collectively pool cash for crate of Mosins or Kar98s or something. Everyone got what they got and most were not crazy about the results, some might have been pyramid scams IIRC.

The only gun my entire life I purchased functional sight unseen was a used West German SIG P6 Police turn in for something unbelievably low like 225$ OTD.

@WhoBusTank69 already mentioned a lot of these are seized from crime scenes officers chamber checked then chucked in the back of the cruiser. Do not ask me how I know but there are a few new neat old Taurus revolvers and even police issued S&W revolvers that were handed in gently with some holster wear before being chopped into 3 pieces. If anyone is asking If you are good with a welder a milling machine and know how to form a proper welding jig/time a revolver/gap cylinder/ you can bring them back to life IF you know WTF you are doing. Be prepared to spend 20 hours bringing it back to life if you have the know=how and tooling. Beyond that you need to talk to my attorney.

Regarding the EGP to functional AR road. Whats's an upper cost these days? What's a lower with a FFL paperwork? whats a parts kit of moderate grade? Spend the extra 150$ and get a brand new warrantied set of parts. For all you know that beat to fuck AR on EGR might have been attempted to be modified to be FA. If you look closely at some of the AR's listed there's clearly a little "Spur" where no spur should be on a non NFA AR if you know what I mean. I don't want that shit in my house let alone my gun. I had a 9MM PCC that fired one round and "freebie" now and then. I chopped / tossed the entire FCG and bought a drop in cassette made for 9mm.

Maybe I'm being paranoid but you're trying to save less than 200$, AR parts have never been cheaper.

Whoever did this needs a job at hi-point R&D or Marketing, like yesterday.

It's like the ugly girl at a bar who did her makeup just right and the bar tender yells "Last call you, fucking losers". You almost want to flip a coin.

Heads: do it

If you want an AK chambered AR, I'd really look at the CMMG stuff, mostly because they use an AR10-sized bolt face so you don't have to worry as much about the bolt shitting itself to pieces.

The contract specs for the Flyweight Assault Machinegun (FAMG) have been published
-Max allowable weight 11.5lbs naked, optimally 10lbs
-Max length 39in, ideally 35in, measured with butt stock collapsed but not folded
-Must have stock that collapses and folds
-Should be compatible with high pressure 5.56 ammunition, but this is listed as a secondary characteristic and I don't know what that means in government contracting
-QCB swappable in less than 30 seconds
-15in TOTAL, not continuous pic rail at the 12 O'clock
-"The FAMG recoil impulse should be sufficiently low as to facilitate effective employment of the FAMG to its max effective range day or night (T)"
-Min cyclic rate 400rpm, max 650

Now, based on the recoil stipulation this feels to me like this is just SOCOM asking for a KAC LAMG with a folding stock.

Great insight into the Geissele and Griffin factories

It's crazy that the Canadians have an infinitely better Next Generation rifle program based on a design made by an American in the 50's

I believe I have come up with the least effective and most inefficient form of delayed blowback that could still possibly have a measurable effect. If you wanted to get nitpicky about it you could describe it as the shittiest form of Gas delay but I would personally call it something like "Brake Delayed Blowback". The essential idea behind it would be to integrate a highly efficient and aggressive, probably DMLS'd muzzle brake onto a slide of either a pistol or some weird non pistol like a Gustloff Volksturmgewehr or a Bechowiec to keep it forward and thus closed for just a little while after after the bullet leaves the muzzle, this would be the shittiest of all gas delayed mechanisms and place it below the Bernitzke system found on the Volksturmgewehr and Steer GB (which in turn sit below the Gas piston and pin systems of the Grossfuss Sturmgewehr and HK P7 and a few others) due to gas pressure being even lower at the muzzle than it is along the length of the barrel in the Bernitzke system.

Although High Standard might have beaten me to this idea back in the 40's

Primary characteristics are usually shit it has to meet and secondary characteristics are shit they'd like it to meet. Generally for secondary requirements the more you can hit the better, but some will be more valuable than others ie a gun that can fire high pressure ammo but is half an inch too long, or doesn't quite have the ideal barrel life might still beat a weapon that hits those requirements but can only fire normal rounds.

Been talking with Dave at Ronin Leather, planning out the holster for my Python after I buy it. Dave is a really good guy and I've been enjoying emailing back and forth. I'm going with his Okami holster, which has a belt loop on the rear side of the holster and a snap loop on the front. Looks like it should hold the pistol tight against the body. Going to go with green crocodile belly for the full face of the holster with kangaroo leather lining, and a 17° cant to help tuck the bottom of the holster up under t-shirts. Dave says it will take about two months to make once I place the actual order and submit payment. And even with the exotic skin, the price is around what some custom makers charge for a basic leather holster with no custom touches. If I end up liking it, which I think I'm going to, I'll probably get a second holster from him for my Dan Wesson.

Woo. My form 1s finally got approved. Just over two months, which is kinda wild compared to the time that my suppressor form 4s took.
Form 4's are running about 5-6 days currently. Average form 1 is about 2-3 months. That's what mine have been lately.
I used that exact welding jig for my Vz.58. I don't know if you bought a used one or not but I had to dremel out the pocket for the rearmost receiver chunk. Got it all welded up only to realize it wasn't sitting level so I had to cut and reweld..

I also got my Groza kit mounted on my AKM/krink bastard.

I took a spare 7.62x39 WUM AKM and installed a krink barrel assembly then cut the receiver to accept a folding rear trunnion. These were intended to be used with 5.56 or 5.45 guns so I had to chop my grip in order to get my magazines to insert properly. Also had to grind the internal trigger and disconnector a bunch. Might be out of spec parts, might be because im race mixing parts, who knows? Have a bit more work to do on it but it should be done soon.

I've heard good things about Ronin. It's not my style but It's quality. I'm old fashioned so i have a service style basket weave thumbreak from El Paso for my Python. carries great. El paso's wait time is a bitch though. you'll wait the better part of a year for your order, and buying a no frills plain holster doesn't speed it up so it pays to go all out. next time I'm getting the full floral carving. all my serious holsters are from El Paso.

My new grips for the Anaconda and Python from Altamont are taking forever. They showed in stock when i ordered but the invoice email said they had to make them from scratch :(

I was thinking of getting a gun at some point but the problem is, they're expensive and I would need to justify a >$100 purchase with "why do I NEED this". I know that faggy gun-grabbers will use that question to you, but I live in a relatively safe area, not a particularly vulnerable person, don't hunt, don't engage in dangerous situations (when I did pizza delivery at night I carried a combat knife), and don't live alone.

There's still SEVERAL steps I need to go through but how do you justify YOUR purchase?

When something goes bump in the night I'm not willing to put my life in the hands of any potential burglars, so I want to be able to use the most effective means of keeping myself and my family safe. After all YOU are the ONLY person who is ultimately responsible for your safety.

I'm still working on the family part, but you get the idea.

I like the Valgear Malyuk/bullpup AK video. Really well thought out AK, shame it isn't produced anymore.
