What the fuck is going on with the trigger plug/block suggestions swirling around? This is an awful set up.

It's the only substitute I believe there is for a manual safety. But I'm a paper puncher anyway, so I'm not aware of more novel solutions.

I don't know why so many are autistically against thumb safeties. I personally won't AIWB carry anything without a thumb safety, even though I have carried guns without them in shoulder holsters and 3:00-5:00 carry. It just so happens that a majority of my guns have a safety so all of my training has made the operation second nature. Yeah, I get it, good holster, yada yada, just shut up and let people prefer a safety if they want to.

Manual safeties are totally fine. It really isn't a big deal to get in the habit to turn off when firing even under stress, people emphasis this little problem but truly it is not a valid reason to poo-poo a safety (assuming well made well designed gun). Having no manual safety being an advantage for every day carry has a lot more to do with the internal design of the firearm being better suited and safer for drops, impacts, or entanglement.

Everybody in this thread would be more than happy to give him advice if he were genuinely curious and interested in learning - I see other users do this all the time.

But Josh always seems to come in with some wacky plan that comes from movies or fuddlore or irrational belief that his use case is fundamentally different than everybody else's and then gets obstinate when people tell him it's a bad idea.

I agree. I have no idea why people treat manual safeties on handguns as "gonna get u kilt in da streets" due to fumbling. As if it isn't SOP for 99% of people to carry rifles on safe. Hell some of the people who hate pistol carry safeties are anal enough to switch their rifle to safe whilst reloading which is pure range theatrics and hypocrisy IMO. Drop/impact saftey is the only thing I think you can really fault them for. Even then some of the manual safety designs have a physical hammer block in addition to a decocker function so you have to spike the thing at mach fuck in condition 2 with the blocker off. In the context of drawing/carry ofc. Still an issue if you drop it after cocking the thing. Consider enclosed hammers too.

I think it's just police force fuddlore because if you have dainty hands or have to adjust the grip of the gun to reliably disengage the safety then i can see that being a large uncertainty in the usability of a gun but that categorically dissappears if you go to a gun without a safety.

The gun industry has been heavily appealing to Police forces because they buy a lot of guns but they are also equipped for specific scenarios that i do not think most gun owners find themselves in. Cops have quick draw guns with large magazines to neutralize the sudden appearance of threats. that has made entire categories of traditional self defense guns seem completely worthless in comparison. Yeah. People should consider context before copying what ever the lowest common denominator of LEO, Seal, or competition guy is doing. Not that I don't get why people do it. Its easy/comforting to copy a ready made solution that has been committee approved but that doesn't mean literally everything else is obsolete. Plenty of cops and war fighters are gay retards

They do make conceal carry guns with safeties, but it's more common for them not to as that makes firing faster.

the baby browning's safety goes into a little notch in the slide and locks i place, and puts leverage against the bottom of the sear so the trigger and firing pin is locked in place. the safety lever is the thing holding the firing pin and basically every control of the gun in place. you just flip it off while squeezing the trigger and the gun continues functioning. even in the heat of the moment your thumb is already over the safety so its just a flick of the thumb.



it could be improved in many ways but i just find it funny that its really a solved problem. 98 years old btw

Also in regards to the whole blank in the chamber yeah not advisable on several reasons already mentioned but a big one would be legal repercussion, it kinda falls into using less lethal ammo a prosecutor could use it as an motive claiming because you were aware of it's less lethal nature that you'd be less resistant to discharge your weapon.

I've carried all sorts of pistols for both concealed carry and professionally. My current carry guns are a Dan Wesson Specialist which is a full-sized 1911, and a Staccato P, which is a Commander size 2011. Both are single action autos with both a grip and a manual thumb safety. My typical CCW holsters are either outside the waistband belt holsters, or a full shoulder rig in colder months. Thumb safeties have worked very well for me. I've never had one accidentally be switched off safe before.

It's pretty common for novices like him to to some degree scared of the gun. However, what I'll never understand is nobody bats an eye at revolvers but feels completely different about automatics. There's always the New York trigger spring if you're still concerned or miss double action revolvers.

Since defensive shooting and gun stuff is so firmly in the realm of the hypothetical for so many people, being told they are wrong about something gun/shooting related feels like an accusation of being dumb and bad at logic.

I'm also a bit sour that many (well intended) people made (not generally terrible) suggestions to buy something new that fit his fancy rather than encourage him to just learn the gun he's got. Not everything needs to be a purchase, not ever shooter needs to do what you do, you probably have many things to improve upon yourself.

I think its possible he replied to my post in particular with the annoying line because I shot him a DM. Maybe I dropped the spaghetti.

Jewsh should just carry a single action revolver, hammer down on an empty chamber. The safety is just not having the hammer cocked until the draw, no "round in the chamber" JUST IN CASE and you have 5 rounds to get the job done. If it's black powder then you have a neat smoke screen to cover your escape.

In their and his defense when everyone says Israeli carry is dumb and to NEVER EVER DO IT and he wants a safety then the logical conclusion is to then buy a gun with a manual safety. I think the guys with the snapcap/Israeli carry idea to warm up to chambered carry had the right idea personally. If he still can't stomach it then a purchase of a manual safety firearm is really the only way out. Every other "solution" is just saying how wrong his solutions were and not offering much else.
