If you want a pistol a Glock or Glock clone, 17 or 19, just whatever suits your fancy. I'm kind of eyeing a Ruger RXM atm which is a glock clone with an fcu, comes with an optics cut from the factory for $399, and you can buy different sized grips from magpul for $39 (and hopefully Flux will have a chassis for it at some point)

For a rifle honestly just a 10/22. I shoot mine in my backyard basically every day, dirt cheap to shoot and endlessly customizable, great to practice the basics with.

As far as Taurus goes personally I've had good luck with them but I don't necessarily recommend them. The worst gun I've bought from them was my TX22 which is still fine, it just had a really crunchy trigger out of the box that ultimately cleared up after a few mags

Assuming you're an American in a normal state, I think the general consensus would be a very good to good condition glock 19/17 police trade-in plus a couple mags, depending on how many it comes with. Besides used Glocks theres new or used M&P 2.0s, CZ P10s and a bunch of other things above the Taurus tier. For $600 you can buy something decent and have money left for ammo.

That does seem to be the trend but what exactly is the difference between the Glock 19 and 17? I know the 17 holds 17 rounds but does the 19 hold 19 rounds?

1911's are awesome - you're not gonna find one worth having for 600 dollars though.


They're pretty cool and have almost as much of an aftermarket as Glocks and God Forbid a pig disgusting P320. If you're determined to have a manual safety they're your best choice.

Glocks naming schema is based on patents.
The glock 19 for example, is the 19th patent for the glock company. What it actually is, is a glock 17, but shorter; its the "compact" model.
This site is a good one to check for LEO tradein handguns, just be sure you're sorting by whats in stock.

Honestly if you've never really had or used guns before, don't get a handgun, get a .22 rifle, and familiarize yourself with basic firearms operation, safety, and shooting fundamentals before getting a handgun.

Starting with a handgun is like taking your first ever drive in a loaded down manual pickup truck starting on a hill.

Look into a few choices and then rent them at a gun range. Try a glock, a shield, and a few other options and see what you like best. If you like a gun more you'll practice it more, and that trumps any spec the gun may have. Just steer clear of ones with design/manufacturer issues *cough*SIG P320*cough* and you should be fine.
 
43X or 48 MOS with steel mags is also legit but the mags are more than G19 mags. More comfortable to carry than the 19 and shoots the same from what I can tell.
If you go 19 or 17 Magpul mags are good for blasting so you can keep your pristine Glock ones loaded wit da hollow tips and ready to wack a nigga

They most certainly do not shoot the same. A smaller, lighter gun with less real estate for your support hand will always shoot worse.

The difference in comfort while carrying be negligible.

The 43x and 48 will be slightly more concealable, but it’s really easy to conceal a 19.

I should've said the 48. The one I have has a heavier slide BARE than a slide one one of my 19 clones with a dot. It feels more sluggish because of that, but otherwise the same. The 43x is a bit more concealable but I will admit it's a bit more punchy than the 19 or 48.
I'm basing this off of not owning a real 19 but a number of clones with more comfortable frames and nicer slides. I imagine the stock 19 slide weighs more than the 48

They're fine so long as they pass the drop test! I actually think the PT92 is pretty good as far as a clone goes, although that's outside of the topic of a EDC CC gun... Unless?

dont buy a taurus semi auto for the love of god. the berettas are probably fine but considering how many italian ones are out there just don't even bother

at this point though taurus probably makes better revolvers than smith and wesson and they're uh... they're a lot cheaper.

starting with the hillary hole fiasco, and possibly even earlier, smith and wesson just started making bizarre and overly-complicated decisions indicative of serious organizational problems and we're like 20 years downstream from that. it's not really surprising that the laurel-sitting has led to a fucking BRAZILIAN gun company beating them on every front except for bluing

i was looking at one of the fancy smith and wesson 631 j frames they made recently that they were selling for like $800. i have a taurus 731 i got for like a hundred fifty bucks. The smith had a better finish, but imma be honest with you the cyllinder lug was just as rough and it basically felt the same in the hand and trigger, the only difference were minor aesthetic differences so boomers would trip over themselves to overpay for a gun that people would absolutely be certain was not a taurus.

Listen even if it was made in Texas I would be skeptical of purchasing anything from that company

if you're set on handguns then the aforementioned Glock 19 as it's literally idiot proof or if you're lucky and shop around you might be able to score a Beretta 92. Shotguns either a Mossberg 590 or a Benelli Nova, the Mossberg has a shitton of aftermarket upgrades and accessories one in particular for those inclined to keep their shoulder from being dislocated you can put in an adapter plug that lets you shoot mini shells. For long arms Ruger 10/22, again tons of aftermarket accessories and upgrades and they usually go for super cheap around the holidays usually around the $200 range.

Agreed. Pre-90s S&Ws are excellent guns. I've had a few vintage N Frame magnums that were works of art. Two first generation no dash Model 57s, and a Model 28 Highway Patrolman from 1955. I also had a nickel plated 586 from the early 80s that I wish I still had. Would have made a fine BBQ gun with the right grips and rig.

For modern revolvers, I would personally go for Colt over Ruger. Nothing wrong with Rugers, they're rugged and reliable wheelguns. Its just that Colt has the quality, reliability, and the aesthetics whereas Rugers are rather frumpy and utilitarian looking.

Of course - protips for you and all the normies getting into the the world of guns.

Brick & mortar gun stores suck dick. Yes, it's nice to be able to finger fuck a gun you've only see online but their prices are always higher and they'll usually flat out refuse to order a product they don't have in stock and will try and sell you on something "just as good". Call a few pawn shops around you (they're all FFL's and ask what they charge for an FFL transfer) order the gun online to them, pay the fee and go home/to the range.

For a gun store to have a good selection of mags and holsters they'd be only mags and holster stores. Trying to find anything other than PMAG's, Glock and Wilson Combat mags is usually a waste of time. Order both online.

If you can't find your mags on here you've got something that belongs in a museum.
