I still think the best bet for an x39 AR type is the cmmg mutant.
But I understand that's a little more expensive and we're starting to get a bit proprietary.

If memory serves, @The Dude owns one. I'm pretty sure it was him who not only has one but educated me about what makes it better and why.

Everything I hear about the CMMG Mutant makes it sound like a good rifle, if what you really want is the 7.62x39mm AR. Never hear complaints about their bolts breaking.

because it is a pretty decent rifle. it's purpose-built for 7.62x39mm and while it doesn't share as many parts with the AR-15 or AR-10, it does work quite well.

Even as a SKS guy, once you see the shit they do to AR bolts to get 7.62x39mm to run, 300 becomes pretty appealing. 7.62x39mm was designed during WW2 for Pete's sake, none of that is STANAG standard.

On a separate note, got my SKS cleaning kit in, fits in the trap great, and bought some Remington 300 win mag 180 grain soft tip with a gift card from Christmas. Velocity on that 300 win mag takes a hit even compared to other brands like Winchester, but it's readily available at my local Wal-Marts, so I'll use them as plinkers.

Huh my Walmart stocks Winchester soft tips year round and the tipped stuff at least around hunting season.

If it is losing that much velocity, be aware your POA/POI will shift when you change ammo. For something like that I would personally pick an ammo and stick with it.

I just take what I can get ahold of really, I like practicing with different rounds and just collecting them since I don't buy 300 all that often. I have good polymer tips if I want to go all out, really these are for getting brass and having fun at the range

I am handing my old reliable Baby Browning in .25 ACP to a close family member who had expressed deep interest in it for a milestone birthday present. The little thing is likely older than I am. Ever since I got the gun from my father, I had used it as a concealed carry and backup gun. I was carrying before I could legally smoke, I'm sure that would get half my family thrown in jail these days.

To cut a long and sentimental and blogpost short: I want a new ultra-compact conceal carry and backup handgun. As most of you already know, I carry a long-slide 10mm Glock 40 MOS for my primary conceal carry weapon. So I don't need something that mirrors that sort of capability. I usually carried the Baby Browning in either an ankle holster or in an interior vest pocket/holster.

What's good/reliable in the micro-gun market these days?

Sadly 99% of gun makers have abandoned the pocket pistol in .25 and .32 and really only KelTec and Beretta still make itty bitty pistols. The Beretta 21a is excellent and I've heard good things about the P-32 from KelTec.

That makes the Ludwig Wilhelm Seecamp LWS-32/LWS-380s look cheap by comparison. I'm still trying to hunt down and try the Berretta 21a, the NNA Guardian, the P-32, and LWS guns before I buy one of them.

I have 2 P32s and like them very much.
You can still find Beretta 81 cheetahs at alright prices and the 3032 Tomcat is still available.
Searching around you can find Savage 1907 pistols in good shape that won't rape you $$$ wise.

Argh it looks great and I don't have a PCC at the moment.....

It does have an interchangeable magwell, yeah. It has options for original Henry mags (below), Glock mags, Sig P320 mags, and M&P mags. Henry ones look decent but will probably cost twice more than Glock mags.
