Shooterscircle has bt 762 print xh for $570 atm that comes with a qd mount. Don't think you can beat that for 762 atm.

is there any validity to the thought of buying a .30 cal can for use with .30 cal, 6.5, .277, 6mm or 7mm etc? does that work at all?

They work pretty good, not as good as the correct can but 90%as good
you can even swap the end cap on a few models to get closer to the correct size.

Of course it works and it was the norm up until the last year or two when companies started making really niche caliber sized cans.

Imo if on a budget no reason not to get a 762 can. The sound difference is absolutely minimal and you will have something much more versatile.
