Mecha anime & manga - Big robots. Other than Gundam.

Gundam UC Climax never ever because the fucking game is mostly voiced dialogue without any subtitles, there is no option to activate subtitles, and the dialogue is not cutscenes.

Life is genuinely suffering. Only way to actually play the game is to set up something like Whisper running via CUDA, that then parses the audio into text, sends it to another LLM for translation, and then displays the result as subtitles.

If you can cache the translation (which I did) and get it to trigger based on the first line spoken, with time delays ala subtitles, it's somewhat playable.
neat, I thought I heard of some voice-only games getting subs but maybe it was hardcoding them into video or the game had an easy WORDS GO HERE layer they could abuse

Also Marcoss Triangle Frontier never ever because the internal structure of the files is just spaghetti nobody can make sense of, so the only way to play it is via smart frames, OCR + LLM translation via something like Meow or Kamui, which is less of a pain that UC Climax to set up.

As opposed to the heckin' based fan translator deciding to take a page out of the playbook of their professional peers and adapt the transition to a modern audience?

And no, it's not as rare as you imagine it to be.

I've played AI translated games, and as long as you use a good enough model, prompt it properly and give it enough context, the translation will come out fine.

I genuinely wish Japanese developers took the AI pill, fired all lolcalizers and used AI to translate their games. Better that than the dogshit we're getting.
yeah it would be really amazingly great if we could get the gedums lovingly translated by somebody who gives a shit and is fluent in English and moon, and I'd like a dinosaur to ride to work, too
living here in reality the mtl/ai stuff can obtainment of crabstick but unfortunately it's not like there's a big crowd lining up to translate old Doraemon

Hardcoding them into video is the only way it can be done IIRC.

Granted, maybe it's possible to inject custom code that would trigger displaying text on the screen to match the lines being spoken, but I don't think I've ever seen someone implement something like that from scratch, instead of reusing existing features of the UI, for a console game.

The only other alternative is the Bulk Slash approach where they basically had to revoice everything in the game with English VAs.

I've been playing UC Climax with an application that Claude made for me and it works relatively well (something similar exists already, but it requires W11 live captions, and I'm on Windows 10).

My reply whenever someone starts becoming emotionally incontinent because a team dared use AI is, if not with AI, then how?

Because it's not like there's an infinite supply of people with the technical and language knowledge, with enough free time and motivation on their hands, to toil away on a game for years on end to translate it, especially if it's something obscure.

I don't expect anyone will ever translate the Gasaraki PS1 games, or bother with Power DoLLS, or Mobile Suit Gundam: Classic Operation / Advanced Operation, or Macross VF-X and VF-X2, or Macross 30.

And these aren't even the most obscure games out there. There's simply not enough talent on hand to do them all, so the only realistic way to experience these games, besides dedicating yourself to learning the language, is to go the LLM route.

I say just have them all English dubbed by Southeast Asians and Singaporeans
That is how we got SRW Moon Dwellers' translation.

People act like all fan translators are great too, and there's a bunch that are cut from the same shitlib cloth as the "professionals". Or ones like the SRW OGs translation, Which is pretty good, but they also just randomly changed Ashsavior and Weißsaviour's names, which has always bugged me.

These are about as innocuous as it gets as far as AI uses go.

Anyways: SRW Z2. Fun shit. It's the last time Banpresto truly gave a shit. Even though it's got some dumb plot elements like having two Japans solely because the writers felt like they couldn't handwave some reason as to why Dai-Guard, Shin Mazinger and God Mars couldn't exist in Area 11, it's still better than pretty much the entirety of the PS4 era.

Speaking of Z2, gotta say that for me, it probably has the best attack animations in the serie. Also im not saying this because im biased because Z2 has Seiohki.

Watching Space Battleship Yamato because I just cannot get enough of Tomino homework, and apparently that was the big show that put Yas on the map.

Finished the original run of Yamato. Now I have no idea where the fuck I can watch Farewell, Space Battleship Yamato thanks to Animekai getting burned down.

Binged GunXSword 4 months ago and thought every single plot thread needed more to it and the fanservice to go further. It was just okay.
The only good things it has are Eldora, Van Chesto-ing mechs and the fight with the antagonist.

I rewatched the first Macross Delta film, man the TV series is so much better.

Delta is one of my favorite Macross series and tomorrow I guess I will finally watch the second film after a long time.

It is funny because last yeat I did read the Windermere spinoff manga and I wish there was more Macross manga translated...

And after the disaster that was GQUX, even the delta haters can't deny that it was leagues better than GQUX and I DREAD the upcoming sunrise Macross

to the shock of the world, Aeon Genesis still exists!
oh and they translated Real Robots Final Attack, sorta Virtual On but it's Banrise

Holy shit the second Delta film is amazing.

Such a good film that juggles so many concepts and lore. The ending was fucking tragic tho. FREYJA....

It is amazing how humane the antagonist was.
I really like that second movie. The new songs are good, the fights are nice and the VF-31AX addresses pretty much every gripe I had with the Siegfried.

I want to get into post-F Macross but it won't be the same as watching it live pirated on keyhole or whatever back in the day and nerding it up with the gang and going OHHHHHHHHHHH SHIT THEY TALKING ABOUT LOVE SOMEBODY GONNA DIE

I think that's why F and Code Geass are so memorable to me. A couple of the first times my internet was good enough to actually pirate and watch it alongside everyone on /m/.

This only works if something is good.

For example GQUX was getting worse and worse until that shit ending
