Well, they're Old... Antique is also old, and worth A Lot Of Money... therefore these items are worth A Lot Of Money! These model planes aren't made anymore either, so they are actually Rare Collectibles! But yes, the packaging is slightly damaged, so he gracefully lowered the price. It's a Real Bargain.

I wouldn't consider it rude for a buyer to ask him to open the sealed box to make sure the pieces didn't break when the box got crushed.
But, then it wouldn't be mint.

I had an email exchange with Chris about one of these models. I tried to buy one of them from him by talking him down to a reasonable price, trolling/ween-free. The conversation went exactly as you'd expect, but here it is anyway, poor spelling and grammar intact:

WHAT AN ASSHOLE!

- Chris has no idea how to price model airplane kits. Assuming that it was in mint condition, a quick check on a pricing guide would put it well under $50, probably $10 at the most.
- Chris seems to think "older = more valuable". If that's the case, he could sell Barb on the black market for organ harvesting, nevermind the condition of both.
- Chris and his mother aren't exactly well-off, but if he was that desperate he should stop buying LEGOs or even sell them off at a loss. The Tugboat should be more than enough to pay for food and basic living expenses.
- Chris rejects a deal that is far more than he would get otherwise.
- Chris insults somebody because they didn't get what he wanted.

I'm probably being redundant and stating the obvious here, but the whole deal with the violin's pricing vs. toys seems to be yet another illustration of autistic thinking - "if it's valuable to me, it must be valuable to everyone else", and "if it's junk to me, it must be junk to everyone else".

It's like that tube set he was trying to sell for $250 because it was valuable to him (at least sentimentally), when you can get used tube sets at thrift stores nowadays for as low as $1 sometimes, and usually less than $25. As the CWCki points out in the Craigslist article, and as I've seen myself, $250 can easily get you a decent modern LCD TV.

I think an important step to selling something is doing some research beforehand to see how much others are charging for the same or similar items, but he seems to neglect doing this.

Also, if someone thinks that a large box is a reason to raise the price significantly, then that person was probably reading something else or sleeping during economics class.

No. But I am from Vietnam though. I live in America. Some stores like Wal-Mart sell suits around $50 or $60.

Then on sales in the malls, in America, they may have suits less than $70. I perhaps should research more about how much a typical full suit set cost in American retail stores in the malls. Business suits in Vietnam can be about on the price averages between $20 to $40 American dollars. But remember, they're technically considered pretty expensive to like us Vietnamese in that country because like business suits here, they cost quite a lot to us. Too bad OPL would not understand anything about costs and what is considered expensive or cheap since he has virtually zero understanding of how money works.

If its sold in America, that's why. Cheap business suits in Vietnam tend to be knockoffs anyways.
