They say that a story is most faithful in its native tongue. Will Matteo Garrone's Pinnochio be faithful to the original source? Who knows, though I do admit that I want to see how this turns out.

Yes, and he played the title role. It was... a bit off.

As to this movie: looks like it's meant for kids, but in a good way. What's the over/under on the Mouse trying to kill any kind of professional dub of this?

I'm very confused about this myself. Is this a remake of the older Italian Pinocchio film from about 20 years ago except Roberto Benigni is Geppetto this time?
 
All the Italian adaptations of Pinocchio have been more or less faithful to the book, showcasing the main character's flaws (even though Benigni's one was a bit cringy). I admit that I'm very curious to see this movie. I suppose that if Disney made a live-action remake, they probably would have the innocent, naive Pinocchio clad in typical Austrian clothing...
