Did Crosby admit to having a wartime affair in the book or is that made up for TV? I know war can make people do things they normally wouldnt but it seemed out of character for him to cheat on his wife.
Generation Kill is better than both of them and is far more realistic.

Generation War was a mess. Three episodes was too little time for any story depth. They also tried to make every single German soldier that was young out to be some type of conscripted and reluctant fighter who hated the Nazi Party and were suckered into fighting for Hitler and they were one bad experience away from total mutiny. And once they get into the war they realize that Hitler was a bad guy and that they just need to survive the battles long enough for the war to end so that they can rebuild Germany without the Nazi Party. It's like every character below age 25 that is German hates all Nazis and wants America to takeover their country.
