It's hard to imagine an election where it would make more strategic sense for the winner to choose the loser as VP. (Never mind that it's very unlikely to happen.)

I dunno if having Bush Snr on the ticket really helped all that much. He didn't bring a state (TX was a lock for the Republicans anyway), and the moderate Republicans who were Bush Snr's constituency were unlikely to have opted for Carter despite their suspicions of Reagan.

Honestly, at this point I'm inclined to agree. As disastrous as it would be, I kinda want to see how Congress would react to Trump being completely out of control of the Republicans. And if it's either that or Sanders, who by far is the most down-to-earth candidate of both sides and probably is the best by default, it at least will be an entertaining race.
