Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War - The Beginning of the End

I finished watching it. Honestly, no bullshit from me, it was really good. Best MCU movie aside from Guardians 1 and 2.

Am I the only one in here who had a normal theater experience with no one freaking out? People cheering when Captain America showed up like in the trailers

Some kid next to me had some kind of spastic seizure when Doctor Strange started doing stuff and there were some nerds about to come to blows after the film arguing about who the post-credits scene was a reference to.

Some of the quips at the beginning were extremely jarring. Good thing they got toned down as things started to get serious.

I can't believe they did it. The absolute fucking madmen. Bucky just fading away in front of his best friend, Groot's last I am Groot, and Spider-boy's amazing death scene in Tony's arms, holy shit! I almost cried when that happened. Just the expression on Robert Downey Jr's face and the tone in Tom Holland's voice. It almost makes it worth the inevitable shitty Miles Morales black Spider-Man movie. Don't have high hopes for Captain Marvel. Honestly didn't really care about the changes in Thanos or liked his character. He played the role he needed to play in setting up a reboot.

I agree with everything except Thanos. I thought they did a good job developing his character this time.

I liked it! It wasn't perfect, and my expectations were kinda low, but I liked it more than Thor: Ragnarok or GoTG2, and it was waaaaaaaaaay better than Age of Ultron or The Last Jedi. I dare say it was even better than the original Avengers in some aspects.

It actually got me to care for some of the characters (particularly Tony, Thor, Gamora and Nebula, even Wanda and the Vision), Thanos was a pretty legit villain despite his kinda thin motivations (then again, him just doing it to impress Lady Death might've been a bit much to accept for people who a̶r̶e̶n̶'̶t̶ ̶v̶i̶r̶g̶i̶n̶ ̶a̶n̶y̶m̶o̶r̶e̶ don't know much of the comics), and for the most parts comedy, serious danger and character moments were pretty well balanced. Thor joking around despite losing half his race and all his loved ones actually felt like him desperately trying to cope and pretend he's not hurting, unlike in Ragnarok, where half the time he just felt lolrandom and out of place.

Above all I loved the over-the-top comic book-ass comic book action. Previously I've always felt that the action in some of these Marvel movies was a bit too conservative save for a few exceptions (Ant-Man's brilliant shrinking extravaganza or Dr. Strange's Inception on steroids magic mindfuckery comes to mind), but here we had some gloriously ridiculous shit you'd only expect to see on the funny pages, from Thanos manipulating time and matter to Thor tanking augmented solar beams and that axe dude getting ground up against the Wakandan force field. Thor actually got to properly display his superhuman strength by lifting shit instead of us having to deduce it from him hurting someone really really strong with his punches, and the crazy looking beams, missiles and other assorted projectiles by the likes of Strange, Iron Man and Thanos looked dope.

My biggest issue is with some parts that felt really contrived for the sake of drama and getting the plot to hit all the crucial points. Like where they almost remove Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet, only for Nebula to go tattletale on him and provoke Quinn into attacking him. Aside from it being a bit too similar to what happened to Stark in Civil War for comfort, I thought it was stupid because Nebula had no reason not to stop him from fucking it all up, since her main motivation was to stop the Evil Eternal so she can make him pay for what he's done to her, and there's no way in hell she cared enough for Quinn's well being to not risk hurting him. Had she either kept her mouth shut long enough or just sent his tard raging contemporary to sleep with a flick of her robotic finger everything would've turned out all right.

A similar point was when Thor got to impale Thanos. I mean, bitch, you're a 1500 year old war god with battle experience guys like Cap or Logan could only dream of, and you don't even know you should never let nigh invulnerable, quasi-immortal evildoers have the last word? You could've said your "badass" one-liner and then drove your axe up from the Titan Tyrant's stomach to his brain, but nooooo, you just had to listen to him whisper sweet nothings to your ayran ears! I mean, I know what the point of these scenes were, but they could've been done in a more convincing, organic way so the movie doesn't have to rely on plot induced stupidity. It just felt really forced.

I also wasn't the biggest fan of how Peter Parker was just Iron Man's pop-culture referential sidekick, but that's more of an issue inherited from Homecoming rather than this movie's fault entirely. Hopefully Spider-Man will grow up to be more independent once Homecoming 2 comes out. I think one of the best aspects of Parker in the older comics was how down-to-earth he was compared to many other young genius type characters.

Still, it was quite a fun movie. I couldn't really take any of the deaths super seriously, since I've read enough comic books to know that there are a billion+ ways (some more asspull-ish than others) all of them could come back, but I'm pretty interessed. It was cute how they were trying to throw the vieweres on a loop by "killing off" some of the newer characters (surprised there isn't more outrage over Black Panther being killed off) instead of the older ones, but most of them have announced upcoming movies anyway, plus we know death means jack shit in the Marvel universe. If someone gets killed in the sequel, now that's a whole different animal. That might be a good way for Downey to retire from the role of the billionaire playboy philantropist if he's really that tired of it. I'm pretty sure they will find a way to bring Petey and the rest back though, and it's a given it will have something to do with the time gem. Oh, and Captain Marvel. Here's me hoping her movie debut won't suck as much as her solo comic books...

Like Loki, Gamora, the characters actually killed will probably stay dead, that makes some sense, but everyone wiped by the snap will come back, it's inevitable. Like not only did Dr. Strange just tell everyone "yeah I saw how we win" and then tell tony "this was the only way to win" but you have Spiderman 2 and Black Panther 2 as the next movies after Avengers 4. They're not even trying to hide it. I just don't understand how someone could be so stupid as to think "wow they killed off everyone except for the original avengers and like 2 guardians, how crazy how sad!" It's going to be worse when Avengers 4 comes out and those people realize that this was only setting up some of the OG avengers being actually killed by thanos, because they're the only ones around.

I'm on the same page as you. It was kind of a giveaway at the end actually given how 'it happens' but seriously if you've been on the fence about seeing this movie do not hesitate. From beginning to end it's pretty fucking fantastic. Ten years of building up lore and characters pays off huge in this and I can't tell you how entrancing it was. I've never been in a theater before where the audience is so rapt and drawn towards the film; we all laughed at the same things but regardless of how autistic this sounds you could actually feel a level of dread throughout the crowd as the first ten minutes of the movie pretty much set the tone for things to come. This is also the first time that the credits roll in where no one left. Everyone stayed in their seats, watching the credits in a deadened silence as a surprising level of shock murmured through the other moviegoers. Sure, some more loyal Marvel fans could divulge what the next film will have going on in it but for people who pretty much stick to the movie universe this all comes as a surprise. I fucking loved it, probably one of the best movies I've ever seen and I easily give it a 9 outta 1o.

Just going to say it, the scene was sadder because of Tom Holland’s great acting. If Toby were in that scene... I’m sorry for all the people who like him as Spidey, but he just isn’t as good an actor as Tom.
