Personally, I think it’s more prudent to destroy all intelligent life. Thanos’ plan is fucking retarded because it doesn’t actually do anything to achieve his stated goals.

This new version of Thanos would be a death seeker who, by virtue of his strength and his will, sees it as his divine mandate to kill everyone, including himself, to attain his perfect vision of a world with no intelligent life destroying nature and hogging all the resources. Instead of ending the movie with him alive (which amounted to nothing anyways when he just gets killed within the first 20 minutes of IW), this version would have Thanos dying to his own snap, thinking he’s won, only to have the process halt once he’s dead because there’s no longer a “will” driving it to continue. However, by the time this happens, 50% of intelligent life in the universe has already been dusted, and isn’t coming back.

Then you rewrite Endgame in some way that removes past-Thanos as the main equation, because honestly his inclusion is the dumbest part of the movie and really makes no sense.

In this way, you can have the same result, except Thanos’ plan is merely insane and psychotic, instead of being insane, psychotic, and also stupid.

I respect the amount of effort to make someone like Thanos popular but Disney went over the edge. It works in comics since it's Death itself that wants half of all living things gone and there aren't any idiots agreeing with that because it's the motivation of an entity beyond our own comprehension. Thanos wants to be an equal to Death so he does it's biding and anything he can to be considered Death. There aren't any silly discussions here because the funny books knew these weren't individuals you should feel sympathy for.

Movie Thanos is more like that pansy at school who always cries and says he's misunderstood while killing pets and wanting to be the next Columbine. No wonder lunatics relate to that Thanos so much and that shouldn't be the intention. We need more Darkseids and Palpatines and less woeee me shit.

It's always fun when these econutjobs asking others to die to save the planet don't do the "noble" think and kill themselves. It's double fun when we all know they're the kind of useless, unproductive bunch that they think should be gone but don't realise it.

Death actually articulated that concept? I haven't read Infinity Anything since... well, since it was new, but I was under the impression that it was more "Thanos wanted to impress Death and assumed killing fucktons of everything would get her wet" it doesn't

As a motivation it was quite comic-bookey and cheesy, but it has a simple airtight consistency to it. Cinematic Thanos as super-simp would just have been a hilarious idea.

He's more interesting this way, it's still a woeee me motivation but it doesn't force a sympathetic response and at least it's funny in a way Marvel Studios wishes they were and since there wouldn't be any pretentiousness to his presentation loonies would think twice before admitting something so stupid like "Thanos was right". Guys like MovieBob would hate it tho, too real for them.
 
Honestly he could have tried to impress Hela in a "I will do what you father didn't have the stones to do" because the gauntlet hints that Odin tried to gather all the stones until he faced down the Soul Stone and likely Hela had the same idea. That he did what Odin couldn't and remove half of the universe and Hela getting wet because of that.

I mean you could have the hero be some religeous zealot obsessed with the goddess of the dead. And have a midpoint/endpoint reveal that she actually exists and doesn't approve of the villain paying to win her favour to set up the next film. Will be far better than the shitty fight scene in the end of Endgame.

Brian Puildo and Steven Hughes would beg to differ when they created Evil Ernie and Lady Death which Ernie was a regular mass homicidal psychopath before his transformation. Plus Lady Death greatly appreciated his efforts to kill every living thing on Earth. Unlike Marvel who's too chicken to keep the dead in the ground; everything Evil Ernie and his zombie minions killed stay dead at the end.
