Kumail Nanjiani, who laughably claims to have built 50lbs of muscle naturally at 40.

My reaction to his posting those photos of his head atop his mass of greasy-looking, totally natural muscles at the time can be found, essentially, in the final panel of this comic

To be honest this shit could never come back and we'd all be fine. They had the big finale with Shitfinity War and blew their load. It's done. Hollywood needs to be done.

Fuck, even Black Widow got delayed again?

You'd think COVID-19 wouldn't be as big of a factor since by mid-November, a lot of the political gain from extended lockdowns would be gone while the worst of the pandemic is largely over save for a few hotspots.

Considering Black Widow is their "safe" title in Phase 4, that means either Disney is losing faith in the MCU and need to buy time or they want to keep the Corona lockdowns going even longer.

A direct-to-Disney+ release isn't going to happen thanks to the Mulan remake shitting the bed unless we really do go full "New Normal" and enter eternal lockdown conspiracy territory

I think it’s because with movie theaters reopening they are going to have some social distancing policies and Disney won’t make enough in ticket prices from it while a Disney+ release would not make them money as well because of how Mulan did poorly. I think they’re waiting till movie theaters don’t have a social distancing policy.

Mulan did poorly because asking people who are already paying whatever a month for your shitty streaming platform, to shell out $30 for a movie, (when a superior in every way version already exists on said shitty streaming platform) is a hilariously bad business decision.

I still think we have to wait until after the lockdowns :optimistic: to know exactly what will happen to the MCU since there's so many clickbait shit about the "DoOm of tHe M SHE YOOUUUU!!!111!!1!" videos and articles around and I even remember warning on this very thread that Captain Carol would not bomb like many were predicting it would. We still have to see if the effects of the lockdown plus the interruption of capeshit for an entire year will make the general public break their consoomption habits.

The MCU's greatest strength was momentum to get audience invested in their films. Any hopes for it remaining is gone and you can be 100% fucking sure that normies won't start marathoning 10+ mediocre films to remember who is who (especially that, in their genius wisdom, Disney execs removed all the faces that the normies would have remembered).

Which is why I earlier pointed out that Disney should have released the movie on Disney Plus, even if it wasn't as great a profit as they wanted, at least that would have kept the IP in people's minds so that when the lockdowns are removed :optimistic: , that would mean that the other movies won't suffer as much as they will.

I dunno, a lot of the hate for the MCU came from overexposure. Sure they're scraping the bottom of the barrel in terms of characters to put in now, but I think it going away for a year might be enough for people on the lighter side of burnt out to want to watch it again.

I don't think Black Widow will fail at the box office. It's shit like Shang-li and the Eternals where the drop off will happen.

Personally, I never liked the MCU and I even hated Avengers back in 2012. The first Iron Man was good as a standalone flick but everything after that sucked.

I think Eternals has a good shot at being the first one to fail at the box office and Shang Li possibly as well.

Black Widow will make a profit in the opening week because it could be seen as a "return to normal" thing after the lockdowns and then you get the massive Nu-Wars tier drop off in ticket sales. The MCU has more or less completed itself with Endgame and the normies have now had a year to detox completely, so they're less likely to consoom.

I can see Black Widow making a profit because of familiarity but maybe underperforming like the Star Wars sequels did while Doctor Strange 2 might get butts in seats on opening week since Sam Raimi is supposedly directing it.

Pre GotG the MCU was somewhat good. Post-GoTG all the films became the same type of "snarky never take itself seriously" shit, that gets old fast.

Maybe the Mandalorian is giving me false hope, but I am rooting for the Disney+ series..es? to be good, not necessarily great but solid watches that'll stray from the movie formulas and tell simple stories well. They all seem to stick to sub-10 episode counts, which after the 13 episode Netflix runs is a good sign of filler cutting, and the WandaVision trailer was weird enough to warrant a watch. There's not much info about the Falcon and the Winter Soldier show (besides a delay to 2021), that's the one I am most interested in since I like Brühl.

In GotG2 this was especially grating since every time something remotely serious came up, like Nebula retelling her childhood, insted of getting invested I was counting down the seconds when it would smash cut to a weird reaction or a dumb quip from an other character.

Winter Soldier was the best movie for me. Nothing the MCU did later lived up to it.

Winter Soldier was awesome because it was a political thriller disguised as a superhero movie. Sadly Disney learned absolutely nothing and all the other films went back to the generic cookie cutter Wheaten snark fests formula.

I think the whole thing peaked with Age of Ultron and has been steadily going downhill ever since.
Honestly I think Infinity War was the peak mainly because they actually bothered to humanize the villain without giving them dumb quips and it had a very sad ending. Endgame was just okay afterwards.
