It's actually a bit sad to see another Raul Julia situation happening. Hell, I didn't even like his movie that much, but I'm sad that he's gone.

Keeping in shape for superhero movies is a notoriously heavy burden. Even if Black Panther had the full suit as a crutch, just keeping his looks, for years, while simultaneously fighting cancer is crazy.

Boseman kinda reminds of Raul Julia in a way. The reason he agreed to play Bison in the SF movie even while he was dying of cancer was because the movie was important to his children. I imagine he was commited to BP in a similar way, otherwise he'd taken less demanding roles for his last works.

Edit: My own theory is that the mouse was well aware of all of this, and planned in advance since Boseman had a role in the upcoming animated Disney+ series. They probably have enough footage and voice recording to give the character a proper goodbye.
To go even further with Julia, he also called his family at the time of him shooting, just so he can spend as much time as he can with his family off-set.

Exactly. The hulk film is the lowest grossing film in the whole MCU and they basically dont even reference it and all but retconned it. The hulk film ended in a huge city destroying battle in manhattan, something that you would think would be a big deal and mentioned in spiderman, luke cage, or other avengers films.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't The Hulk one of the very first movies in the MCU and one of only two that weren't made under Disney? I think that might be why Disney was able to retcon it totally, since it was technically made by Marvel Films before the Disney merger in 2009.

I don't see them recasting Black Panther given how iconic that movie is among SJW's and how it's one of the very few examples where the polar opposite of "Get Woke Go Broke" happened alongside Captain Marvel. If they do recast the character, it'd have to be some sort of passing the torch scenario like they're doing with Thor.

Since the Disney buyout, only minor characters in the MCU get recast as far as I can tell.

So with Chadwick Boseman passing, how fucked is Black Panther 2?
Pretty much doomed imo. Shuri does not have the charisma nor the recognition. Some like her, but I guess the normies are mostly meh on her. There was already talk of replacing Chadwick only a year ago with Shuri and now we know the reason but it doesn't change the fact that most, even the BP fans, thought that it was misguided. BP was definitely the most popular character introduced in Phase III, being the one that single-handedly broke a billion. There was Carol but I think most of the hype behind that movie were people that thought it'd be instrumental to Endgame. I still haven't nor am I tempted to watch Captain Marvel and I never really thought her movie brought anything important to Endgame. By comparison, I saw Black Panther after Infinity War and while, being a comic reader, I wasn't really confused about Wakanda and the like, I could understand why somebody would be kind of lost seeing Infinity War without Black Panther.

I know the MCU has a lot of challenges ahead now because Corona is going to affect how Disney will finance films and now with both 20th Century’s Dark Phoenix and New Mutants flopping (both aren’t part of the MCU) I don’t think they won’t be able to use the X-Men due to audiences not being positive towards the brand now.

It might work if they manage to follow a through-line to make Shuri more mature after the deaths of T'Chaka and T'Challa. But that's up to them. If they take the Captain Marvel route, though, I can't roll with that.

They're going to make a Son of Black Panther. They will CGI Chadwick's face for a few minutes, use a stunt double in the suit, recreate Chadwick's voice too, then he's killed or critically injured and passes the torch to the son or some other disciple.

Thus, beginning a new era of Chadwick Bosemansploitation just like Brucesploitation. When the powers that be got a hold of Bruce Lee's unfinished Game of Death they re-edited it, used body doubles, and even a cardboard cutout of Bruce's face and pasted it on a mirror.

I have not heard anyone besides twitter weirdos say they like Shuri that much. I mean, people don't *hate* her, but I don't recall anyone really loving her either.

Making her Black Panther would be a mistake IMO. I don't know why everyone is so against recasting in the MCU.

It was right after Iron Man 1. No one I know watched that film. It was only really in the post credit scene that anyone who watched realised "oh shit, this is a shared universe". Still remember the Hulk film from the early 2000s and how that wasn't great imo, so that probably hampered sales.

Yeah I went and saw Hulk cause I was a Marvel nerd before it was cool, but the theater was practically empty back then.

This is sad. I don't really follow celebrity news so this is the first I've heard of it. I thought he was a very good actor. He had a lot of presence in Civil War and whilst I didn't think BP was a great movie, he was certainly good in it. My thoughts to his family and loved ones. RIP.

Shuri is pretty and I would have liked the character if the first thing they had her do in Infinity War wasn't to start smugly condescending to Banner about his and Stark's work with an "I'm sure you did your best". Shitting on beloved characters to make your new character seem awesome is a text-book way to make the audience dislike them. She could have been the next Iron Man, basically becoming the MCU version of Ironheart (only better) if she had just been impressed or delighted with how they built Vision. If her line had even just been "this is really cool. Why didn't you do __________?" and Banner replies "That would have been a good idea. I like it." Or anything other than what we got. I sense the fell hand of SJWs - they always go straight for making their special character superior to everyone else and know it. Did it with Captain Marvel. It's like this fucking perpetual fantasy - they don't want normal approval from the group, they want awed adulation and acknowledgement of their superiority from the group. Completely blind to how rude they are being.

Also, Shuri doesn't seem to me like someone who could believably have a fight for rulership of Wakanda on a waterfall against Killmonger. They can put a vibranium suit on her but making her this super-warrior is going to feel really out of nowhere.

Shuri is a wasted opportunity. I don't think her as the next Black Panther would work. Doesn't mean they wont try it.

The hulk film ended in a huge city destroying battle in manhattan, something that you would think would be a big deal and mentioned in spiderman, luke cage, or other avengers films.

Just on this point: the Hulk-Abomination fight ruined a bunch of cars and damaged some street surfaces and buildings. Calling it "city destroying" is a bit overstated. But also, Banner does mention it in The Avengers:

"The last time I was in New York I kind of broke...Harlem."

But your point about the MCU minimizing that film is totally correct.

Shuri, in my opinion, works best as the "Q" character. That was one of my favorite aspects of the Black Panther movie, IMO. The MCU kind of made T'Challa a James Bond-like character with all of the gadgets he got. And Boseman's charisma made T'Challa ... Cool.

If Marvel absolutely has to make another Black Panther movie, then I would make Okoye the next Black Panther. Recasting Boseman shouldn't be an option at this point.
