I greatly enjoy most of the Marvel movies ... But oh my god, how dare anyone have an opinion about them, even though Scorsese is a fucking genius at filmmaking ...

I remember RedLetterMedia once discussed how people get so immersed into pop culture that consumption has become their personalities these days. It's to the point where if someone even has an opinion about entertainment that doesn't match the opinon of another, then people get personally offended. It's hilarious and sad at the same time.

Its a mix of that and the mass adoption of explicit "any who criticize the brand are hateful and subhuman [INSERT MEDIA BOOGIEMAN HERE]s whose pathetic manbaby feeweengs are hurt by the brave and unprecedented portrayal of wammen and ethnic people existing!" tactics by pop culture creators and their news media friends and shills. Granted only a fringe of especially lonely and miserable twitter/tumblr/niche forum dwellers actually buy that shit but they sure as fuck are loud in demanding the heads of any who profane the brand for their *obvious* bigotry and harassment

And that's why I have been bashing these movies lately.
And to be honest having people tell you how wrong you are does put you on the defense lately with this rhetoric being more and more common as of late. It's passive aggressive and malicious.

Imagine comparing Scorsese films to the latest sequel in the Captain Gaywad franchise or whatever.

To a guy like him that knows a lot about the history of film he probably can't figure out why the modern equivalent of Flash Gordon serials are the biggest thing at the box office.
 
To be fair to Gunn, it's perfectly understandable why he'd react like that.

If "this" refers to Scorsese's comments then that is too doubtful since if Alec Guinness can constantly insult Star Wars about how bad it is while being the original actor for Obi Wan, then I doubt Scorsese will do much damage.

The only way Marvel movies will decline is if they go overboard on "woke culture" or nothing innovative really happens to spark interest

I must admit, I think it would be the perfect form of poetic justice if a film about a Batman villain ends up being the thing that kills capeshit. The MCU needs to die already. Hell, it should have died years ago.

I can't help but feel we are seeing a reverse of this Family Guy clip.


In the scene, Peter is saying he wasn't impressed with the high art, critically acclaimed, award winning film, and everybody gets on his case and shouts him down.

Here its the opposite. The high art, critically acclaimed, and award winning film maker is now getting bashed because he doesn't like the movies made for mass consumption.

There is nothing wrong with liking the MCU films or Scorsese style films. Art should cover a wide range and just go out and find what you like. And hey, its okay to disagree. I bet if I asked Scorsese if he felt Raging Bull was a better film than Rocky (my favorite film of all time), he'd say yes. I'd disagree and then go about my merry way, maybe even have a beer with the guy if he was up for it.

But to get this upset because someone dislikes the movies you like is First World Problem syndrome at its finest.

I wonder about Alec. He apparently thought it was a little bit like Shakespeare. Carrie and the others said he was a very kind and teacher to them. Obviously he did it for money but part of me wonders if he genuinely enjoyed it.
