Look at The Lion King and BatB.

They got shitty reviews across the board but they make BANK. Especially overseas.

Black Widow has a chance of actually being fun and decent (and the darkest film in the MCU) but regardless of whether its needed its going to do well regardless.

And before you say anything about Scarbage remember that piece of shit film Lucy? It had potential but in the end it was stupid. Yet it made a shit ton of money overseas.

What's he been up to in the comics? I remember there was some one-off with a chick and then oh swerve here comes the OG Warlock and... That's all I know I think.
Part of the problem is that outside of the Infinity stone related stuff, Adam Warlock will at best be kind of peripheral without a lot to do.

Because the 'MCU prints money' thing had been established that summer, with Guardians doing big bucks. Guardians, if nobody recalls, was legitimately talked about as "Marvel's first flop?" because it was the first that most of the mainstream would likely never have heard of. People were aware of Thor and Captain America, even if they weren't considered top tier. Who the fuck knew who Groot and Star Lord were?

So that comes out and is as big as any of the rest of them were, and they figured "Oh fuck we can seriously just do all of these characters and have them succeed" and there you go.

This seems like I'm going off on a tangent but it's related to your point; they're doing it specifically because it'll do well regardless of where it fits in or what "logical" sense it makes. Much like our pal Derranged Denton has been raging about, these films (for now, at least) really are money magnets that the normies can't get enough of. The movies will come out "whenever", because they know they're going to succeed regardless.

Yep, that's the piece of the puzzle I was missing exactly. They figured they could do anything, even a 'proven to fail' female led super hero movie. Wonder Woman just came out first and gave more confidence in female led super hero movies.

I wish Captain Marvel had the hands off marketing approach Wonder Woman did. I saw Wonder Woman. I didn't see Captain Marvel. I'm tired of nontroversy as a selling point.

How Thor 4 does will probably determine if they go full in on using Marvel's "diverse" replacements for legacy characters.

They say with woke media the true test of how it's burned the audience isn't the current product but the one after that. I can see Thor 4 paying for all the bullshit surrounding Captain Marvel.

Wonder Woman is a favourite of mine (the no man's land scene gives me chills every time) and Captain Marvel was just ok. There should be a word for overcompensation via advertising.

If that were true, Far From Home would have bombed. FemThor isn't out for like 2 and a half years, you're telling me that people are going to take their "woke aggression" and make a movie pay for it that won't be out for years later. The majority of them won't identify it as a "woke movie" to begin with.

I also feel like MOST films people claim to be woke propaganda are just people mad about one or two throwaway lines. Wait for the movie to come out, then make up your mind.

I completely forgot about Far From Home. I'm sure the media will do its part in turning people against the movie though.

In fact, after Age of Ultron and Endgame, Black Widow might the movie least accepted by feminists.

People will shit on it because they hate Scarlett. She seems to get more hate for her performance than any of the other superheroes. I don't think that's fair tbh.

And then you got the "Why are we doing this now" crowd.

Apparently both Disney and Marvel didn't anticipate the popularity BW got after the first Avengers film.

I'm excited for the merchandise. They are also rereleasing new editions of her comics.

In a franchise with Natalie Portman and Brie Larson, it’s strange how they go after Johansen

Welp. Sony has ended their deal with Marvel Studios and now has full custody of Spider-Man again. People are mistaken right now, thinking that Tom Holland is done playing Spider-Man. Not true. His contract was with Sony; not Marvel. Holland will continue to play the character for a few more movies.

I see a trajectory in quality approaching with the MCU, so I'm not heartbroken over Spider-Man not being in any future crossover films.

But ... It's Sony. The same studio that released Venom less than a year ago. Fuck.

This will end in Disney fucking over Sony somehow cause Disney will likely not let this slide especially considering outside of Spiderverse, lots of people really dislike Sony.

Prepare for Sony’s film side to be bought

The box office success of Venom is probably the reason why Sony is trying to exude big dick energy. Sony is still determined to do their own "Spider-Man Cinematic Universe."

Venom is a fucking garbage movie. I don't want to see Tom Holland anywhere near the stench of that movie or its inevitable sequel.

The Deadspin article says Disney wanted to increase their share of the profits on the Spider-Man movies from 5% to...50%. Sony said "LOL gtfo" and that was it, meeting over.

Report: Spider-Man Will No Longer Be Shared by Marvel and Sony

Huge news in the world of superheroes. Deadline reports that Disney and Sony have come to a stalemate in regards to Spider-Man and that Marvel Studios, along with its president Kevin Feige, will no longer be producing Spider-Man films.

This comes after Spider-Man: Far From Home, which is being re-released in a few weeks, became Sony’s highest-grossing film of all time.

io9 has reached out to both Marvel and Sony for comment and will update when and if we hear anything.

The issue, as you’d expect, is money. While Disney was happy to take only a small percentage of grosses on Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home (in exchange for Sony allowing Marvel to use the character in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame), a debate among executives began to take place about the future. According to Deadline, Disney wanted to split profits 50/50 but Sony didn’t even counter that.

Two more Spider-Man films are reportedly in development, with both director Jon Watts and star Tom Holland attached. Plus, Sony has begun its own Spider-Man mini-universe thanks to huge hits like Venom and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, both of which have sequels on the way. Rumor has it, Disney and Marvel were even hoping to help out with those films to further expand the crossover—but in the end, the studios simply asked for more than Sony was willing to give. Apparently, Sony feels it already has the big pieces in place, so the films will be fine without Feige. We’ll see how that goes.

Definitely head over to the Deadline piece to read more of the details but this is certainly a disappointing day for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Potentially removing Spider-Man leaves that tiny asterisk on a world that had just inherited the X-Men and Fantastic Four thanks to the Fox deal. For a brief moment, all of Marvel’s heroes were home. But now, it seems like Sony will make its Spider-Man movies on its own.

The Mouse badly, badly misread the power dynamics here.

Lol no1curr about that booger tom Hooper lol.

His hairline was gonna give out sooner or later

The Mouse doesn't need Spider-Man. At least for now. They have X-Men and Fantastic Four characters to set up.
