Maroon 5, why are they so hated?

I only know 2 of their songs because they were often played on mtv when i was a teen, and while i have no doubt the singer must be an absolute faggot, he can sing and they do play their instruments (even live!), which automatically makes them better than most modern pop music.
Makes me wonder is very catchy.
 
They're not bad as in aggressively bad, they're just distilled plastic pop like coldplay. A lot of people like them so I don't see the "why are they so hated" other than the standardly deviated hatred any popular thing will always get.
 
Apparently there's 7 of them according to their band photos, but the music is just Adam Levine, a pop backing, and autotune.

I think there's 2 sets of hatred for them:

1 - The OG haters who never liked them. They found their music sappy and annoying, and pop-rock is always going to be kinda lame and uncool, so they attracted hate sort of organically.
2 - The people who liked (or at least tolerated) them at first but started to hate them when their music changed. They went from pop-rock with a bit of white-boy funk to just an industry pop act that was all about Adam Levine and left most of the band doing nothing as it was all pop production. I'd put myself in the second category a bit, because a lot of their late-period music is fucking annoying and popular amongst the kinds of girls who drink too much gin at parties and end up crying on the stairs wearing only one shoe. I don't viscerally despise them, but I avoid their music and when I do hear it I think "this fucking sucks, this isn't even as good as This Love".
 
Everyone's already gave good reasons so I won't repeat them, but I want to say that I always assumed Adam was a closeted gay man. He reminds me of Ricky Martin before he came out of the closet.

I unironically love Nickelback's older stuff before they went mainstream, I heard "How You Remind Me" the other day and I think it's still a great song. Besides, from what I've heard, Nickelback is apparently a really cool band live and the members are really down to earth and nice. I've heard Adam Levine is a douche bag.
 
I don't hate them, don't know anyone that does, but if I were to guess it's familiarity breeding contempt. They are just aggressively mediocre; it's grocery store background fodder that you can easily ignore, so it's greenlit to be played everywhere. If you're still tuning in to the radio you've heard them over and over again, and this. love. is. takin' its toll. on me. will start to take a toll on the listener too.
 
Maroon 5 have never been more than mediocre, which imo is worse than being outright terrible. Levine is a shitcunt who cheated on his literal supermodel wife with some random bitch, absolutely degenerate behaviour.
 
They are kinda like Coldplay. Only the lead singer is recognised and the rest are just nameless and that represents how they function as band. The first album sounded like collaborative effort. I haven't heard too many songs from Maroon 5 but I listened quite a few Coldplay songs especially from their first album. A lot of songs there are great but for the rest of their music career, they sold out and became generic and Chris Martin became the sole face of the band. Every now and then there is one song I like but that's it. I imagine Maroon 5 to be worse, lot worse.
 
Maroon 5 is the 26th most listened to band on Spotify with at least four songs sporting over 1 billion plays. The aforementioned Coldplay is 6th. Whenever a band hits that high up on the list for a major streaming platform I just automatically assume their music is garbage, and 99% of the time I am correct. In order to appeal to such a giant mass of people to hit those numbers you have to compose music that's the aural equivalent of Avengers: End Game, just absolute fucking slop that only retards will lap up because they don't have any actual taste in entertainment whatsoever.
 
Same issue as Imagine Dragons, I believe (in my opinion): they started out decent/catchy, then they became mainstream (boring/middle of the road), and became more appealing to teenage girls (the teenage girl thing is specifically referring to Maroon 5, though cringy teens and people who leave the radio on at work, or in their car, listen to both).

Coming back to this has jogged my memory: I was binge-watching CSI NY, and there was an episode that opened with a Maroon 5 concert. The song was, I dunno, not even two minutes, but it felt like three and a half+ minutes.

@CoolFool Well, Chad Kroeger is married to Avril Lavigne, so yeah, on that basis, I have trouble seeing him as a tool. Although, it's almost a stereotype that women can have weird or shite taste in men.

They were at least semi-listenable in their first couple of albums, back when they were Maroon 5 and not The Adam Levine (plus these other guys that follow him around) Show.
 
The biggest issue for me has always been Adam Lavine

Their first album was nice, but would never stretch beyond a 6/10 or 7/10 if I am generous

But Adam himself just, started sounding insufferably sappy in his tone.
I can’t put it to exact words, it’s like his voice is so obnoxiously clean it reaches the back of your ear drums.
