MCAGCC — Members of the public have been invited to comment on an environmental assessment of plans to kill thousands of ravens at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center and five other military installations in the California desert.

The assessment, examines two alternative plans, the first calling for a continued use of primarily non-lethal raven management actions, including flushing of individuals, increasing levels of stress and disrupting of nesting opportunities.

The second calls for the lethal removal of 11,830 to 13,293 ravens initially and 1,477 to 1,715 ravens annually.

According to information provided by the combat center, the proposed action is needed to mitigate ecological, economic and health and safety impacts of increasing raven populations in the California desert.

Public comments on the proposed action will be accepted through Dec. 18 and may be submitted via email to jesse.w.martinez1@navy.mil or by mail c/o Cardno Government Services, Attention Hesse Martinez, 3888 State Street, Suite 201, Santa Barbara, California, 93105.

Electronic copies of the draft assessment are available at www.29palms.marines.mil/Staff-offices/Environmental-Affairs under Environmental Assessments.

Hard copies are available at the Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree and Twentynine Palms branches of the San Bernardino County library.

Among other things, the assessment examines the impacts of increasing populations of raven in the desert

“The overpopulation of ravens in both the built and undeveloped areas of the California desert has had several detrimental impacts on the DoD installations within the region,” the report states.

“For instance, increased raven numbers result in higher incidences of predation on juvenile desert tortoises. The desert tortoise is the only federally listed species that occurs within the boundaries of all six DoD installations in the California desert, and the DoD is legally obligated by federal law to ensure the species is protected.

“Ravens are also causing property damage and pose a human health hazard in the built environment, particularly in and around areas where vehicles and aircraft are parked and where DoD personnel must work directly underneath high-use roosting sites.”

The Marine autism about those desert tortoises is going to get a lot of birds killed.

If the US kills thousands of ravens, who will pick at the rotting carcass of the Marines' reputation once the Biden administration finishes setting the country on fire?

ravens are cool they're like fat black parrots more or less. They're going to put ravens to a near extinction state over the fact they just want to eat baby tortoise meat and sometimes get caught in engines? why the fuck would you build your base around a place where tortoises and ravens live?
Of fucking course it's california. You'd never see this shit anywhere else in the USA, most people just try to shoo off and deter bird landing in specific places by setting up netting or some disorienting shit instead of outright killing them.

California still tries to call itself an ecological savior when they're promoting mao-era policies in the military. What is this nonsense.

Remember, it's only 'saving the environment' when it's cute.

Well, I mean, I kind of get it.

Since we took 'em all out of Afghanistan, they need to pick a fight with something. A Marine without a war is just a man without a purpose, tbh.
