Even going through Ulta to get my primer I looked at everything with this "eh, I think I've got something like that right at home," feeling.

Same. I've been looking more at skincare, and I find that endlessly fascinating (sounds stupid, but I did go to school for it lol) but I barely look at makeup anymore. I've just been replacing my basics and I haven't gotten much beyond that in several months. Like, five lip colors in six months? If you'd told me that I'd be buying that little a few years ago, I'd have laughed you out of the room.

Does anybody else think this looks like a hot mess? I found while searching for cakey makeup

The application isn't too bad, but I'll never for the life of me understand why you'd want to make your face shinier in the summer time. Y'know, when it's going to be shiny whether you like it or not.

Also:

Blogger Lady dijo:
Who wants cakey makeup when your skin doesn’t need it and the hot weather isn’t kind to it?! AKA melting off your godamn face within one hour.

Girl, please.

She's wearing more product on her face than I do in the winter when I know it won't melt off, lol. I'm so lazy, during the summer I barely do anything with my face. I even grew my eyebrows back in and started bleaching them so I wouldn't have to groom them or draw them on, because soon it'll be humid enough that they'll be sliding right off and I'm sick of worrying about it. I can't imagine putting that amount of shit on my face in the southern heat and humidity.

Would the Nyx warm neutrals palette http://www.nyxcosmetics.com/ultimat...7.html?cgid=eyeshadow#start=10&cgid=eyeshadow look good on my pale (like lightest foundation shade) cool toned skin? The colours in the warm palette are so much nicer than the cool one, but if Kailyn Wilcher has taught me one thing, it's that the prettiest colours in the palette don't necessarily look pretty on everyone's face. I'm not sure if the red and brown would be too much on my skin tone. Incidentally, I absolutely adore the brights palette, but when would I wear bright yellow eyeshadow? Never. Not that brave, sadly.

I believe in the Kai thread, she tried a similar palette, and the consensus was that those very bright colors are meant for people with dark skin (such as Black, South Asian, et cetera).

EDIT: Whoops, the link automatically showed the neon crayon box color "brights" set.

Honestly, I have the same concerns with the ABH Modern Renaissance palette. I am pretty nervous about the warm tones as an NC15.

I bought the shade Sedona from Makeup Monsters and it's coming in today. I hope it's a good dupe for Jeffree Star's Gemini shade and I may have an addiction to this lipstick brand...

I bought one of those cool jelly lipsticks with a flower in it (https://www.lavishcolors.com/produc...jelly-lipstick-worlds-most-beautiful-lipstick) since they were half price and look really cool but now I'm worried since I had it shipped to my uni hall then found out it takes 3-5 weeks to ship, and I leave for the Easter holidays and a trip to Rome in 3 weeks. :stress:

My hall has a policy to send stuff back where it came from if no-one collects it within 2 weeks, but if it hasn't arrived by just before I leave I might have to email the reception staff and ask them not to send it back and instead let me collect it after the holidays, because driving from my home to my uni is a 10 hour round trip and my dad will definitely not drive me halfway across the country just to pick up a fucking lipstick and then immediately go back home.

I hope they're understanding, I'm really looking forward to using this lipstick...

EDIT: I contacted the customer service of where I bought it from to ask if I could change the shipping address since the order hasn't been shipped yet. I hope they reply soon.

They should understand if the school is on holiday. Those lipsticks look so cool!

Hey Julep crew, have any of you ever used their skincare? I tested out their clear SPF 40 at Ulta today and it felt pretty good and I still haven't had a reaction to it, but I was wondering if their products were worth it or not. I'm going back and forth as to whether I'm going to switch to something like that, or if I'm just going to get the new UD Urban Defense primer. I'm not 100% sure I really need a primer, since I use powder foundation and it doesn't seem to make that big a difference unless it has oil control, but both products are clear SPF which is what I'm looking for.

Also, I'm happy to report that since I switched to my new cleanser and night cream, my skin has been doing so much better. The over-sensitivity has calmed down almost entirely, and the dry, flaky patches are gone. Aside from a small hormonal breakout, this is the best my skin has looked and felt in months. The price was nice, too, at $30 altogether.

I might check this out, my face has super bad breakouts from time to time, and the stuff I buy just DOES NOT work for me. I'm pretty sure it makes my skin worse to be honest lmao.

I know this stuff isn't a hidden secret, but the Aztec healing clay is amazing. I have really oily skin and huge pores on my nose, and I've been using this once a week (with ACV with the mother) and my nose and forehead are so much drier and my pores are TINY. I used to be able to feel the pores like little craters along the bridge of my nose, and now it's just smooth. The stuff feels really cool too... your face gets all tingly and pulsates.

On my quest to get longer, thicker hair, I've come across oil mixes applied to the scalp. It's usually a mix of oils (castor oil, olive oil, essential oils, etc). Most of the videos on YouTube show black women doing this. Do you think it's worth trying on white hair? If anyone has any experience I'd like to hear about it before I go blow $40 on oils

The oils that I know of that stimulate scalp health (cellular turnover, circulation, etc) and will promote healthier hair growth are black castor oil, peppermint oil, and rosemary oil. The latter two you absolutely have to use in a carrier or it'll dry the fuck out of your skin, but I used to use a shampoo that had peppermint oil in it and it helped my hair grow and cleared up my eczema.

I've never tried the products but I've been looking at OKAY Naturals, you might start there. The prices are pretty affordable. They have a Black Jamaican castor oil blended with rosemary oil that looks promising.

Hair oils are great and all, but have you tried just switching over to a boar bristle brush? I got one from Amazon for $35 and it's changed my hair. My hair is silky and soft, long and shiny with fewer breaks - just using it once a day and washing my hair every third day. If the ends feel too dry after washing, I warm a dab of pure shea butter between my hands, get some on my fingertips, and work it into the ends.

Are any of my fellow kiwis into JFashion? I've recently gotten back into lolita fashion and I'm getting ready to drop a lot on an Angelic Pretty order (Baby's First Burando). I wish I had the confidence to wear it publicly, but there's a monthly meet nearby that I'm planning to go to.

Here's another question for you gurus.

I have Kailyn-Wilcher bad skin (thanks genetics!). There is not one part of my face that is a clear, uniform skin shade. I was using the traditional neutrogena/clearasil/biore/etc. shit for a while, then I switched to Dr. Bronner's tea tree soap and my skin cleared up pretty well but not well enough for me to feel comfortable going without foundation/concealer. Plus, if I don't use those products, my skin literally gets damp with oil, all over my face. It's disgusting and I hate having to layer on the slap if I want to cover all my red bumps and scars and huge fucking pores.

I tried to go to a dermatologist and they took one glance at me and prescribed shit I'm allergic to, which gave me a rash and also hurt.

I'm starting to break out again. I've got two monsters on my forehead right now (one of which is a TRIPLE header) and I get them on my cheeks. I change my pillowcase every other day, I'm drinking more water, I wash my hair. Are there any good products for an oil-slick like me??

Me, me! Shamefully I never attend meetups since they're pretty far out and I'm very shy, just wear it to conventions and occasionally around the house when I'm feeling frilly. Most of my lolita closet is Baby and Innocent World with super-super occasional splatters of Moitie. What JSK are you ordering?

I had skin like this. What worked for me was a routine I found on Reddit. Stick to a no-frills gentle foaming cleanser (cetaphil, cerave, etc) and a no-frills gel/lightweight moisturizer (cerave PM is mine at the moment but I also like Garner's gel moisturizer and Clinique Dramatically Different Gel), and in between those two steps at night, use a Stridex pad all over your face and then wait twenty minutes before moisturizing. They come in a red box, are dirt cheap, and contain an effective percentage of salicylic acid (which companies like to put in cleansers, which just get washed off so they are not effective) without any comedognic ingredients. Following this routine gave me a lot of visible improvement over the course of a month. I actually don't even wear foundation to work anymore now; just a bit of concealer on spots and powder to set.
