I have really bad dark undereyes, and I've found that the Nyx concealer that they made specifically for dark circles works wonders. The one for ~lighter~ skin is a peach color, and when you apply it, it seems heavy, but it blends out to a nice, neutral matte finish. Sometimes I just use that concealer instead of foundation, and it still works beautifully. (It should be noted that I also have super sensitive skin, mostly because my acne medications have fucking sulfuric acid in)

Speaking of sensitive skin, I started using Differin, like a week ago. Last night, I threw a pore strip on after I got out of the shower, and after I got dressed and otherwise ready to go to work, I started to pull it off and it took some of my skin with it. That has never happened before, and now I'm side-eying this Differin like, Jesus, I don't know if this shit is worth it.

Differin is one of those medications where it's super, super effective, but at a high cost. I was on differin for...nine? ten? years before switching to my current/customized medication. It's so, so harsh on the skin for the first couple of months. Once I used too much (and applied it to my whole face, not just where I had pimples) and got a nasty chemical burn. Was not a good time.

tl;dr differin is great because it works really well...but at the expense of comfort.

I hate when things smell weird. Mostly because it seems so unnecessary. There are so many other options, you'd think that companies would put some r&d into not having things smell like a meth lab, so as not to alienate potential customers.

Seriously, especially when it's a product that's going ON YOUR FACE, and is a beauty product not something medicinal.

Exactly! I have asthma, and there are facial products I can't use because they make me have asthma attacks. It's ridiculous. The worst part is that I feel like it's a sign of people in the beauty industry not having respect for their own customer base. "It doesn't matter if it smells like Walter White's basement! Those bitches will tolerate anything if we tell them it looks pretty!"

I am not much of a makeup person, but I do love untinted BB mineral sunscreens.
Does anyone have a favorite BB/CC cream, tinted or untinted?
What about a favorite sunscreen.
I have worn sunscreens religiously since I was about 27 or 28 because I am fair skinned and for anti-aging purposes.
What is everyone else's experience?

I used Retin-A micro and Retin-A just to keep my skin looking younger, and it never did that to me. I worked my way up from .025 all the way .1, and I still use it today. My skin flaked a lot when first using it, but I never experienced what you did. :heart-full:

I wore Clinique Age Defense BB cream pretty religiously for a few years, because its lightest color has slightly pink undertones, so it worked pretty well with my skin tone. I like Urban Decay's One and Done now, for when I don't want to go full spackle, but it's not as good a match, color-wise, as the Clinique was. I'm really pale, so finding foundation white enough is no easy task.

When I do wear sunscreen, I'm pretty sure it's Neutrogena, but I can't recall exactly. I work at night, so I don't spend much time outdoors during daylight hours, so the last time I wore sunscreen was months ago.

About the skin peeling, I was shocked when it happened, because I wasn't expecting it. I started to pull the strip off and it hurt and I realized it was taking off my skin, so I tried to be more gentle with removing the rest of it, so luckily it's just a small patch, but even losing a small patch of skin has me a little gun-shy about continuing to use the product.

Depends on your skin type. I have medium skin and combination skin, and Laneige BB compact and Missha BB cream is great and has 50SPF in them respectively. For sunscreen I actually alternate between this really cheap Korean brand (can be bought for like $3 at RoseRoseShop) called 3W Clinic, they have a 50 SPF sunscreen that doubles as a primer. On other days I use Shiseido's 50 SPF sunblock which you can find at Sephora, it's a bit of a watery formula though. When I'm swimming I use Neutrogena's 120 SPF anti-aging waterproof sunblock.

As for a Retin-A substitute that's less harsh, try an AHA/BHA toner or cream. I use CosRX AHA/BHA spray toner. I spray on a cotton pad and wipe on my face every day. Just make sure to liberally apply sunscreen after your skin routine. Since I was off birth control and on an IUD, the initial stages left my skin getting zits. With a reliable routine it's as if I were still on birth control in terms of clear skin.

That's horrifying! I used Differin for a little while in high school (I used to get really bad cystic bumps) and all I had to show for it afterwards was a shit-ton of hyperpigmentation because I didn't understand the need for sunscreen.

This is the thing that gets me about dermatologists prescribing peeling agents, retinoids in particular, to their patients. I've never had one that thought it was important to inform me that, hey, if you use this shit, wear sun protection, or you'll look even worse than you do now. Once I went to esthetics school and learned, I was horrified at what I'd done to my skin, and now I'm stuck trying to undo all that damage. Thank God I never actually spent time in the sun, who knows what my skin would look like now? I'd probably have wound up like a lot of my classmates, looking like 35-year-olds at our high school graduation because fuck sunscreen and drinking water and stuff.

Does anyone have recommendations for treating blackheads? I'm cursed with large pores and oily skin, and my nose is covered with blackheads that will not budge.

I've tried clay and charcoal masks several times, but they don't really help the blackhead issue. I also wash my face in the shower and always take off my makeup when I get home... but I also rarely wear makeup because of the blackhead issue, and I'd like to deal with this so I can wear makeup regularly.

Oil cleansing and exfoliation. You'll never be fully rid of blackheads- even people with "perfect" skin have them- but you can lessen them. Exfoliation is the best way to do this. Personally, I prefer chemical exfoliation over mechanical, because scrubs and the like tend to make me itch more. Nip + Fab also makes a great cleanser with glycolic acid in it, I saw a lot of improvement when I used that.

You can also rub some kind of pure oil- I've used olive oil, coconut oil, and even sunflower oil for this- wherever you have blackheads and they'll pop right out. Oil attracts oil, after all.

To avoid double-posting, let me just gush about a sample I got yesterday at Sephora. I went to just look, I swear, but I ended up walking out with two of the UD vintage Vice lipsticks that were on sale for $11 (would've been three, but they were out of "Asphyxia"), and I used some of my points for a tiny pot of the Sunday Riley Tidal enzyme water cream. And I can see why it costs $65 a pot! Oh my God, I can't stop touching my face, it feels so good!

It's pretty bad when you're willing to just eat cheap garbage so you can buy expensive skincare, right..?

Tidal is great. I got a total of three little pots in a bunch of Sephora's holiday gift sets, so I've been using it for about a month. It, along with the Luna oil, is part of my before bed routine. I was using Good Genes as well, but I ran out of that first, since I only had .5 oz, and I am not about to spend 100 dollars to get a full-size version. The man ingredient is lactic acid, so I'm pretty sure I can find a less expensive replacement. Then again, if I keep using Differin, I probably don't need to use yet another thing that makes me shed skin faster.

About the blackheads, I use GlamGlow Supermud and pore strips to get rid of the blackheads as much as I can, and Smashbox Pore Refining Primer to fill in the pores when I put on makeup.

I agree with the above. A good skin routine, including oil cleansing and exfoliation is the way to go. I use Holika Holika's soda oil cleanser and just rubbing your face with it, you can feel the blackheads popping out like grains of sand on your face. Gross and oddly satisfying. You should exfoliate with some scrub, I prefer sugar scrub (Skinfood does a great one but you can easily make one yourself) twice a week.

I know you tried face masks but what helps with my blackheads is the Aztec secret green mud mask. It's super cheap on Amazon. I like to mix mine with apple cider vinegar, some powdered charcoal (from emptied capsules), and honey. My skin is smoother and pores look smaller after using it.

I follow up with a face mask to just seal moisture in.

For instant gratification you can use pore strips but it actually doesn't get rid of them permanently.

Anyone have experience with Shape Tape? It was one of those products that r/mua was going nuts over but I don't know how many of the people reviewing it were paid shills.
I love Shape Tape. It does have a distinct scent but I wouldn't describe it as medicinal or like bug spray. Typically I don't like my products to have a fragrance but I don't mind Shape Tape. After applying you really don't notice it, it seems to fade away quickly. I would say it's very...herbal, I guess? I don't mind it. That said, it works incredibly well and I can't see myself using a different concealer anytime soon by choice. A little goes a LONG way, which is great, and the coverage is amazing. It definitely lives up to its hype. I highly recommend.

Anyone have any favorite primers/setting sprays? I feel like nothing I try really does the trick or is lasting. I've tried every UD setting spray, a few Tarte primers, and NYX primers and sprays, and nothing really seems to help makeup stick to my face - after a few hours, no matter what, I have to reapply because my foundation is melting off.

God I was the worst at sunscreen until my early 20s. I had a melanoma scare at 19 resulting in my doctor asking me how soon I could come back for a biopsy. It turned out to be benign and I was careful for like, a month. It took getting some arm and shoulder tattoos for me to really give a fuck about protecting it so part of me is a little ashamed but also happy that it worked I suppose.

I've been using the sheer liquid veil sunscreen from Salma Hayek's Nuance line and I love it because it doesn't break me out and it's easy to apply. My Pixi toner and using brightening face products have made my freckles lighten and my stupid hyperpigmentation by my mouth also lighten. I hated that stuff by my mouth because my mom would try to scrub it off when I was a kid. It looked like I'd eaten a chocolate bar and wiped off most of it.

Does anyone else have Keratosis Pilaris?

Hey, has anybody tried that Korean carbonation mask? Me and the GF wanna try it but I'm a little unsure on testing it myself cause it's expensive and if it doesn't work or makes my face feel shitty, I'm gonna have a whole jar of shit I won't use.

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer. Comes in various 'flavours' such as Blemish-Free and Radiance; my tipple of choice is the Oil-Free, but there's an SPF 30 one that I might get next time I need some.
