I started using a safety razor to shave my legs and I get such a close shave now with half the skin irritation and save a ton of money on cartridge razors; 100 replacement blades for 10 bucks. For reference Venus blades are currently selling at 8 replacement blades for about 10 bucks on Amazon. The shaving industry is a racket.
I'm planning on getting myself an epilator for my birthday to avoid this hassle. The one I'm looking at is over $100 and I know epilation is painful but I think it will be worth it to have wonderfully smooth skin

I'm trying to find a way to apply eyeliner and mascara and make it look natural. The problem is that I already have big eyes and long eyelashes, so it either looks too dramatic or too fake. Whenever I try to look for tips online, I only find articles on how to make your eyes and eyelashes look bigger/longer. *sigh*

I want to try putting on makeup, but I never feel natural while wearing it. I always feel like I'm doing something wrong. :\

I like Covergirl Clump Crusher mascara; it's the only Covergirl product I'll use because it keeps the lashes separated and looking natural. Dark brown, not black, very few people actually have black eyelashes and the key to natural makeup is to accentuate or match your hair/skin color, not change it.

I've also got long eyelashes to the point where I can't use lengthening mascaras and have to really curl them because I'll otherwise blink and get goop on my glasses.

I use NYX Pin-Up Tease mascara. The brush is one of the short spiky dealies and the formula does a good job of not clumping them all together. It's also pretty inexpensive at like $9 or $10 a tube. Some voluminizing mascaras make me feel like this:

As for eyeliner, sometimes I skip it all together. I like using pencil liners (favorite is NYX) because that particular one is inexpensive and also easy to smudge for a smoky look. But not so easy to smudge that it's all over you if you blink. If I do my lower line it's rarely in black. Lower lash line I can do in a bronze. If I do use black I use it only on my water line because it looks like I drew my eyes on with crayon to me.

The other thing with eyeliner is that it was one of the things I didn't learn to apply well until I was almost 17/18. I didn't wear it often so when I would try to wear it I would do a mediocre job of applying it. I eventually wanted to do well and literally practiced. It gets easier and especially if you're not trying to rush when you're still uneasy.

I'm probably not the person to ask because I like my lashes to look as fake as possible without having to wear falsies (I'm using the new Tarteist mascara by Tarte and I LOVE IT), but I do have one suggestion... Have you considered getting your lashes tinted? Then you wouldn't have to use mascara at all and it would still look somewhat natural. I actually need to go get mine done cos my lashes are blonde and I just can't get down to the root with my mascara brush like I need to.

There are also super-skinny eyeliners out there, too. I know Maybelline has a super-skinny pencil, and there are also liquid liners with tiny, ultra-thin brushes that you can use. And some lines even have shimmery nude liquid liners so you could have something on your eyes without it looking dramatic at all. I like stuff like that when I'm just running errands or I'm traveling or something (I'm vain and insecure and wear makeup at all times when I'm out of the house, period). NYX has their Glam Liners and the nude is really pretty. I'm so heartbroken that Illamasqua discontinued "Glister", that was my go-to:

The color was great and the pink shimmer just, ugh. I love it.

I also randomly found a Korean one at Marshall's (Saturday Night Liner in "Tuesday Pure" by PeriPera) that I adore but you may or may not find it in your area. It's just shimmery nude with different-sized iridescent sparkles. It's worth looking if you can, it's very comfortable to wear.

For eyeliner, look up tightlining. It's a technique to get eyeliner very close to the eye and looks pretty natural if you do it by itself. As for mascara, you can curl your lashes and apply clear mascara (something I wore in middle school a lot before I was allowed to wear "real" makeup". Or if your lashes are light colored, you can try one of the various lash inks out there that just tint your eyelashes without adding much volume.

Right now, I'm stuck between getting the Laura Mercier Flawless Contouring palette and the Kat Von D Shade + Light palette. I've been using the Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer for contouring for years, but now that I'm running out of this pot, people are telling me to try a powder palette. These two are the only ones I've seen recommended by people with brown skin, but I'm skeptical about YouTube reviews, so I'm sort of trapped.

I bought this trashtacular sequin crop top from one of those throwaway fashion stores where most everything on the rack is below twenty dollars and they don't have changing rooms, for future Mardi Gras. Has tumblr made the world safe enough for me to wear it on the regular yet?

@glutenfreebooty I wish I could be more helpful, but since I don't contour (I don't have time/energy for that), I wouldn't really know. I have seen this palette by Lunatick Cosmetic Labs being used by a lot of Instagram artists, though. It's designed so that you can use if for contouring, blush, and even eyeshadows since all the colors are eye-safe. The price seems a little steep at $74 but it breaks down to about $6.17 a pan, which isn't bad, especially considering the pans are about the same size as, say, a Sugarpill eyeshadow.

I've heard really good things about this company's products and I'm hoping to try some soon; I'm eyeing a couple of their lipsticks, eye palettes, and their mattifying powder, myself. And it looks like you can take each pan out and put them in a magnetic palette, which is super-convenient for traveling!

EDIT: Forgot a couple of things, whoops!

Me neither. High five.

It just seems like a lot of work to put in if I'm just gonna sweat it all off at work, y'know?

Also, not related but... I used a lip balm that must've contained something I'm allergic to, because it feels like my lips are burned and one corner of my mouth is cracked a little. My lower lip is fine now, but my upper lip still hurts a lot and is tight and still healing. I've been smearing rosebud salve on my lips (that stuff really is a miracle product) but, ugh. I work in the beauty industry and I have to look like I put effort in, and I can't wear any of my lipcolors because they all feel terrible and look gross anyway.

At least I have a couple of tinted lip balms that don't hurt to wear.

Oh no! Were you able to narrow it down at least? I've somehow only been "itchy uncomfortable" allergic to one serum and "OH MY GOD GET IT OFF" to two other things in spite of how many different things I use.

I remember the products. It was a mango lip balm that might have been a bath and body works balm. I was 10 or 11 and happy that she got something like that for me because I loooove mango. My lips also got super fucked up by the end of the day, compounded by "gee wow my lips hurt, better apply more lip balm."

I still avoid mango lip balm to this day. Fruit is fine. But I think that scared me.

The other product was a Chanel eyeshadow that had some kind of frosted look to it (it was 2004, whatever.) It irritated my mom's eyelids and she thought I might like it. For all the stage makeup I wore in ballet from an early age I NEVER reacted to anything (except that lip balm previously) and we both assumed eh, not a problem. I could probably exfoliate with gravel no problem. And being 13, the opportunity to add a Chanel eyeshadow to my tiny cache of Bobbi Brown and Maybelline was fantastic. I put some on before work the next morning and went away. Well, my eyelids looked like something out of Resident Evil and hurt something fierce. I ended up getting it off with the only tools I had--fucking Dawn and a kitchen towel. When I went downtown the next day to return it I think I horrified the makeup counter.

I did some work remotely last week and forgot my makeup bag. I was right by Sephora so I must have swatched the goddamn Fresh Sugar treatments for like 15 minutes deciding on one that would be a nice treat and sort of unique out of all my other colors. I was caught between Rosé, Petal, Ruby, and another one that I forgot about because it was out of stock. I ended up choosing Ruby and I really like it. I usually use Burt's Bees plus another product because colored balms usually don't feel all that moisturizing and protecting to me. Only downside is I need a mirror to apply it because I definitely had the 4-year-old-applies-mommy's-lipstick look a couple times that day.

That Fresh Sugar is the most I've spent on a lip product in a long time but now I get the hype. I just love the feeling of the container.

@GRANDnumberofMULTIPLES That's awful! And yeah, I knew exactly which one. It's in the garbage now.

I'm definitely developing more allergies as I get older; I can't use a lot of colors on my eyes anymore and I'm going to have to purge a sizeable portion of my collection because of it. My eyes just can't take the intense colors I used to wear all the time, they start watering and before long I'm a goopy, faintly itchy mess. Blue, green, purple, most pinks... I tend to do okay with reds and oranges but I'm not pushing my luck.

Honestly, I think it's because I tried to ignore my PPD allergy for so many years. I've been coloring my hair for ten years now, and for a long time I thought the itching was normal. Little did I know I was making things much worse for myself down the line.

Before discovering the Forever Kailyn thread, I never really bothered washing my makeup brushes. I also had really terrible acne, so when everyone was talking about how nauseatingly, freakishly bad her skin was, it was basically the same as my skin. But now, I wash them at least twice a week with hot water and Dr Bronner's tea tree soap and my acne has cleared up a ton! Thanks, Kiwi Farms!

I have a facial cleanser which gets rid of my acne but causes dryness. Would it be better for the long term health of my skin to not use it?
You could use the cleanser in combination with something else like a moisturizer. Most cleanser cause dryness, since I think acne is caused by oiliness.

I have a question: why is shaving eyebrows to shape them considered a bad thing? Just about every other method is painful as fuck, as well as a lot more work. They make tiny eyebrow-shaping razors yet every time anyone mentions getting their eyebrows done, they just say "No, keep razors away from your eyebrows it's WRONG."

If men can shape their beards and shit with razors on their face, certainly women (or other men) can have a steady enough hand to use razors for their brows? I don't see what the issue is. In the meantime, I just don't bother with my eyebrows because I'm not willing to rip hair out of my face for beauty.
