Can anyone recommend lipstick shades that would look fine on a pale redhead?

I have been trying to get a decent red lipstick for a while (just something that would be good with parties or dates). A Facebook friend of mine told me that I would look good with a merlot shade, but I don't know.

As for types, I wonder if anyone here has Urban Decay lipsticks and if they would recommend them or not. Their eyeshadows are fantastic, but I am not too sure on their lipsticks.

It depends as much on your skin tone as it does your hair color. Look at the inside of your wrist at your veins; if they appear purple through the skin, you have a warm complexion. If they appear blue or green, you have a cool one. Depending on your complexion you'll want to get a corresponding warm/cool tone. I'd say stay away from any bright warm reds, and go for something either cool or neutral.

I have a cool complexion.

And I got myself the NYX Simply lip cream (Bewitching from VAMP and Fairest from NUDE) and they look pretty great!

UD lipsticks are DABES. I lovelovelove them. :heart-full:

Eventually I will buy one of the Revolution lipsticks (hard to do because I have student loans and a gym membership to pay monthly). I will either buy Native or Manic. =3

Nude and beige lipsticks work well IMO. Kat Von D, Colourpop, and LASplash have good beige tones.

Also I envy people in cold climates who get to break out their scarves and boots now :(. I'm in a tropical region, we barely dip below the 70's for winter.

>tfw it hasnt snowed here in 50 years.
We miss out on all the cool winter styles, too. I don't even own a sweater.

Sorry for double posting, but does anyone know if/how contouring differs for every face shape? I had a lot of trouble finding my face shape , I think it's somewhere between heart-shaped and an inverted triangle. I really don't wear make up a lot because I have ridiculously sensitive skin but I'd like to try it sometime.

Also if anyone has any good brands for concealer for skin that breaks out easily, I'm all ears.

One thing I want to say is that I don't understand people who freak out if you use drugstore makeup. I purchase makeup from the drugstore, and I have used department store makeup. If you know what brands are good and know what to look for, you will find something just as good.
I used a Sephora foundation, and when I ran out I used Revlon Colorstay, and it works JUST as well. I save a lot of money, because we can all agree here: makeup is expensive.
Drugstore makeup gets the job done and looks fine, I save money. Plus, the closest department store I have to hop onto the parkway for and I'm not feeling it usually.

Shampoo and conditioner however, is something you have to be careful about. In my experience at least, my hair is really finicky.

Yeah, I don't get how people can be all uppity over drugstore makeup. I tend to get eyeliner from either Maybelline or Jordana and they both are pretty good. And CoverGirl has good mascara in my opinion.

IMO Covergirl has the best value drugstore mascara. The one in the yellow tube is one of my favorite volumizers.

I've only ever had one horrible experience with drugstore makeup
back when I was first testing with eyeliner, I bought maybelline ultra liner waterproof liquid liner, and boy was it terrible.
It would peel off, I've never had that experience before. It just looked really bad at the end of the day, and I was really nervous to try new liner.
Now I use revlon colorstay liquid liner, and it's been a much better experience.
I don't use it often, I'm too lazy/nervous to put on eyeliner unless it's a special occasion.

Do you guys have any makeup horror stories?

Yeah, checking in as a happy drugstore and department store makeup user here. It's all about what works for you. I use NYX's pencil liner because as much as I loved the UD 24/7 fuck if I'm paying near $20 for one.

I went to Bath and Body Works today. The coupon deluge has begun. I got three fragrance sprays (Mad About You, Love and Sunshine, and Midnight Pomegranate), a new bath sponge, a Marshmallow Fireside candle (used my free item coupon!), and best of all the fucking adorable bat pocketbac holder.

My mom also liked the True Blue Spa stuff so perhaps Christmas will be an easy shop this year. She picked up more hand soap and the Fresh Balsam candle.

EDIT: A frosted Chanel eyeshadow gave me eyelids out of Resident Evil once. That and Maybelline GreatLash had the tendency to make my lashes fall the fuck out.

I once left a Bite lippie in my car during an interview and while it wasn't completely unsalvageable it was definitely kinda melted. I've also lost some eyeliners that way but that's typically only when I've left my car at the train station in the middle of summer for an entire day.

Recently I accidentally knocked a refill of Flowerbomb off my counter. I'd done this before but this time it cracked right against my glass scale, showering EVERYTHING in the bathroom with Flowerbomb. The glass was easy to wrangle but everything reeked of Flowerbomb... and that used to be my favorite scent.

It's not quite makeup but I personally find it somewhat 'horrific.'

When I was a kid, my mom was very big into constantly dying her hair. (My guess as an adult is that she found her first grey hair.) So we buy a new box of hair dye, bring it home, my mom gets in the shower. I hear the water turn off and then, a few seconds later, my mom screams like the house is on fire. I thought she must've slipped or hit her head (I distinctly recall an alligator in the toilet being a definite possibility), so I run to the bathroom and start pummeling the door. I was about to call the police when my mom stopped screaming, but she opened the door and I saw it.

Her hair was magenta, this dingy dark shade of purple. She was crying a little, her hands wrapped in her hair. And I laughed. I laughed so hard that she snapped out of it and whapped me good with her hairbrush.

Anyways... speaking of hair... any good brands of hairspray you guys can recommend for frizzy or flyaways? I look like I've been scooting around on the carpet in my socks for God's sake.

When I was graduating college one of my falsies somehow didnt stick right when i applied it and sort of fell into my eye while I was sitting in the auditorium. I had to rip my falsie off and stuff it into my dress. I had to carefully peel the other one off so I wouldnt look like a dingus. Thankfully my friend confirmed that everything else was fine but I walked across the stage in a lot of pain.

Also not makeup but I bought curly wurly from LUSH once and when I opened it, idk what the fuck it was, but it was yellow and hard. The shampoo itself is naturally a lighter cream color but it was almost sunshine yellow. It looked like some sort of crust was on top of the shampoo and then when I scooped it out underneath was BLACK. I took it back and got a replacement but it smelled so gross.

Oh god. I tossed some old shampoo when I was cleaning my bathroom. Mostly Garnier stuff I don't use any more but it straight up smelled like bad yogurt. I don't think it holds a candle to what you had though. I did make the mistake of going "no prob, just gonna squirt it down the drain!" and had to deal with the smell lingering in the fucking pipes.

Tigi Bed Hard Hard Hold hairspray. Bit pricier than most but I swear by it! The bottle is big, though, you couldn't stick it in your handbag/purse for touch-ups.

I try to use shampoo and conditioner without sulfates (or at least less sulfates). I personally use Tresemme Naturals.

That aside, I want to buy a Naked palette. I am thinking on either the Smoky or Naked2, but I am not too sure.

Can someone in this thread tell me like, how makeup works? I know nothing about it. I'd like to cover up or reduce this damn shaved beard shadow if that's even possible.

for covering facial hair, I'm guessing you're best off with concealer and foundation. I'm not an expert myself though. It might not really work depending on how thick your facial hair is. It IS definitely possible to cover even thick facial hair stubble, but I wouldn't really know how. It might take some more products if it's thick facial hair. I guess you'll just have to test and see what works.

Full coverage foundation and concealer. Liquid foundations, specifically--powders will cling to the hair, making it more noticeable.

Try applying the products with a sponge, like a beautyblender, for more/better coverage.

I'll add that beard shadow tends to have a blue cast, so the first thing you'll want to do is counter the blue with orange. Start with a peach-colored concealer - these are often used to hide undereye circles - and then use a foundation that matches your skin tone over that.

Foundation is something you'll want to play with, depending on the effect you're hoping to achieve. I feel like full coverage products are great if you want to look flawless in pictures or on webcam, but do not look natural in person. Not that "unnatural" is necessarily a bad thing; just a preference. Choosing a sheer foundation that builds up to full coverage means you can use a lighter touch on parts of your face where your skin is already nice, if you take the time to blend carefully (+1 recommendation for the beautyblender). This is definitely more time consuming than covering your whole face with product, but ends up looking more natural. Funny how that goes, isn't it?
