Does anyone have any good tutorials, tips, or resources for makeup beginners? I feel as though I somehow missed the boat when I was younger, and I'm pretty confused on where to start. I'd really appreciate any help. :heart-full:

So let's talk about candles.......I have a problem.

My favorite season is "burn your house down" season. I picked up the New York Black Tie candle and the Sea Salt and Fresh Water (FAVORITE WALLFLOWER RIGHT THERE) during the 2 for $24 3-wick candle sale.

I know SS&FW is more of a home-type scent but my god I would bathe in it if I could.

I really hope I can find the bat pocketback holder. I got my mom the black cat one but the more I see the bat the more I want it for myself.

I got some body sprays (Dark Kiss, Sensual Amber, and Velvet Sugar) during my last trip there. I'm always delighted that for inexpensive fragrances they don't smell, well, cheap. It took all my willpower not to buy the Plumeria one (that was my jam when I was 10-14) when those were in stores. I compromised with the shower gel and lotion, but good lord I should have been sent to rehab for my abuse of plumeria fragrances in general during that time of my life.

Now that it's autumn and will become winter in the northern hemisphere, I'm thinking about trying eco-friendly deodorants again. In the past these types of deodorants didn't work well for me because (a) the baking soda in the formulations horribly irritated my skin and (b) apparently they didn't cover up my smell very well. Hopefully I will have better luck in the cooler weather. I picked up this one at a natural grocery store near me, so I wouldn't have to wait/pay for online shipping. :)

I'm also on the lookout for eco-friendly skincare and body care products for my good friend from high school. It's best for her to avoid endocrine disruptors in the ingredients like parabens, phthalates, and dioxins because she has PCOS. The challenge? She is horribly allergic to aloe vera, and just about everything that is natural and reasonably priced has aloe vera in its formulations somehow. She also has very oily skin from PCOS, so facial oils just won't work for her.

She does seem to be in love with these types of lip balms, however. They're the eco-friendly answer to Lip Smackers, because there are so many flavors...

Let me know how it works. One of my friends is REALLY allergic to mango and I could see that one you bought working out terribly for them. This friend doesn't even do commercial smoothies because the blenders aren't washed thoroughly enough.

I tried Tom's once because my mom bought it. It smelled really nice in the tube but it absolutely did nothing for me. It was like nothing even went on.

I don't know too much about crystal deodorant but I know that the rock crystal kind has been a favorite of the old Berkeley hippies for a while. I hear there's a trick to applying it correctly which is part of the learning curve. http://www.thecrystal.com is just one of them. I haven't used it because I use Secret PH balance.

Hey ladies, have any of you guys ever tried out any snail gel skincare items? I looked up some reviews on the snail gel skincare we sell where I work, and they sound awesome. I'm gonna try the mask first.

P.s. I tried Baby Blues by China Glaze last week and it's streaky and patchy when applied. Hated it.

I sometimes use the Crystal Essence roll-on when I'm going light. But I don't use it when I expect to smell/stink a lot. That is why I'm using conventional antiperspirants until I can find a natural deodorant that works. *sigh*

I've also tried Tom's deodorant a while ago, and it did nothing for me either. I liked Soapwalla's deodorant at first, before the baking soda started horribly irritating my skin. There's no mango in Soapwalla, though.

Two other sensitive deodorants I'm also interested in are from Meow Meow Tweet and Bare Bones. There's no mango in those either. Though I plan to use my Primal Pit Paste until I know if it works for me or not. I don't want to be like ForeverKailyn and buy stuff only to use once but let rot in a hoard. At least if my PPT doesn't work for me I can give mine to friends, which Kailyn apparently doesn't have. :alog:

@bloodcoffee yeah I use that Mizon snail gel stuff pretty much everyday! I like it a lot, it's got a good texture (surprisingly) and goes well under makeup. I dunno if it made my skin any better because my skin is already pretty good but it gets the job done.

Oh shit a thread for me.

Let me give some recommendations for make up and beauty!

Liquid eyeliner: Sephora brand liquid eyeliner. I love matte cat eyes and this is a very affordable way to get a good non shiny cat eye. I would recommend it over Stila because Stila is so watery.

Lipstick: LASplash lipsticks dry matte and are liquid in application. Just exfoliate your lips and hydrate them before using, they can make the lips dry. Smells horrible but I love their range. You don't need to use a lip pencil it's that easy to apply.

Contour kit: Honestly Anastasia Beverly Hills is the best for an all around contour kit but it's fucking expensive as shit, so go with Tarte's parkave princess kit which is 10 bucks cheaper.

Eyeshadow: I consider any NAKED palette a staple and a good splurge. NYX has cheap alternatives.

Eyebrows: Get an eyebrow gel, seriously. Elizabeth Mott 'Queen of the Fill' is my absolute fave. As for eyebrows I'm not a fan of the popular dip brow that ABH has but I love their eyebrow pencils.

Lashes: Drugstore mascara is fine (if you want to splurge I REALLY recommend Dior or Too Faced) but you'll need an eyelash curler and a good pair of falsies. I can recommend cheap sephora brand but Violet Voss has great quality lashes.

For foundation use a stipling brush first and then a softer round blending brush to blend into the skin. I recommend using any LIQUID concealers right after liquid foundation, but if all you have are powders/creams wait 3-5 minutes before foundation has set. Use a make up primer before and a setting spray after your face is done to lock everything in, it really does get rid of creases in the make up. Best primers/sprays IMO are too faced and makeup forever.

Overpriced companies to avoid:

Smashbox: Their crap is so overpriced and not good for daily wear. It's best to use on photoshoots tbh. Their primers, especially their 'anti redness primer', is crap.

Physicians formula: Unless you have a bad allergy or skin is so sensitive, you can find better products for the same price you're paying for their crap.

MAC: There are so many same priced or cheaper dupes as MAC. I think their lipstick is ok but I'm partial to liquid ones. I'd recommend going there to found your foundation color and that's about it tbh. I might be powerleveling/biased because I used to work there but you seriously can do better if you instagram or google search real beauty gurus.

If your boobs are over D size like mine are nordstrom rack carries up to size H I believe.

Sephora liquid liners gave me the worst allergic reaction of my life. It was terrifying, I was completely blind for like, two full days. Never forgiving them for that! Never!

But hell yeah to Nordstrom having the best bras. And the nice part is, the big sizes come in more than just beige, white, and black! And they carry Betsy Johnson!

My mom gave me a Chanel frosted shadow when I was a teenager and my eyelids looked like something out of Resident Evil. Neiman Marcus took the return with a look of horror on their faces. I feel bad about returning things that I've used if they turn out to be defective and never have I ever had any makeup that gave me such a horrible reaction. That was the only thing in their product line that fucked me up big-time.

I had to switch mascaras a few years back because my Lashblast suddenly started making my eyes feel terrible and watery after just a couple hours. There's something in Esteé Lauder's formula that does the same thing. Now I use NYX Pin Up Tease with no issues.

Oh no! That's so upsetting! It's one of my favorite cheap liquid eyeliners. :( You might want to use gel liners? MUF has a good one, and I like Stila's gel liner as opposed to their pen.

Oh believe me, I have plenty of nice liquid liners. There just must be something in Sephora's formula that doesn't work for me. It's alright. I have so many, one dud wont kill me. It might blind me, but it wont kill me!~

FYI, as far as gel liners, go the Maybelline ones (all of them) and the L'Oreal gel liner all transfer on me. Idk if your eyelids are oily though.

Can anyone recommend lipstick shades that would look fine on a pale redhead?

I have been trying to get a decent red lipstick for a while (just something that would be good with parties or dates). A Facebook friend of mine told me that I would look good with a merlot shade, but I don't know.

As for types, I wonder if anyone here has Urban Decay lipsticks and if they would recommend them or not. Their eyeshadows are fantastic, but I am not too sure on their lipsticks.
