Are salon shampoos and conditioners actually substantially better than drug store ones and is it true that the higher concentration means that if one partitions them properly that they are the same price yet with better results
I had a girly stuff moment that was just too close to Chris level.
Monday at work I dumped coffee on me so I had to go to Walmart to buy a new shirt and bra so I wouldn't reek of coffee all day. The only bra my size was this bra that was like those genie bras that were popular a few years ago. No underwire bras were my size. Anyways, I change clothes and holy crap, this bra was exactly like those ugly sports bras Chris wears that gives you one flat uniboob.
Anyone else here have very blonde hair? I'm talking platinum to white.
I've had white hair for about a year now, and been blonde since middle school and while I love it, it's a pain in the ass.
If I don't wash it every day it turns a weird shade of yellow-gray and I know I shouldn't wash my hair every day because that'll strip the oils from my hair and cause it to dry out, especially for chemically treated hair like mine. And washing it every day means I go through shampoo quickly. And as you might know, if your hair is gray or a cool blonde, you either need to constantly apply toner or wash with a special purple tinted shampoo. Which is more expensive than regular shampoo.
I've tried a few different ones. Tigi Catwalk Fashionista, One n Only Shiny Silver, and currently, Clariol Shimmer Lights (shampoo and conditioner). So far I like Clariol's the best as it's very pigmented, to the point where I might have to cut it with regular shampoo, but oh god does it smell bad. It smells sort of like rice, my grandma, and perfume that preteen girls would wear, all wrapped up in one. And the conditioner isn't creamy... It has the consistency of shampoo but it won't form a lather.
I pay $200 to get the color and cut done at a salon. My hair naturally is a medium brown and very fine in texture, and my haircut is really simple. Am I paying too much? I know I could probably find somewhere cheaper but I trust my current salon because lightening that much can cause all kinds of problems like scalp blisters, hair loss, and hair damage. I used to have bad bleach damage and breakage when I was doing it myself but since switching to this salon I haven't had this issue once.
That sounds in the realm of right, @kittie. I know that super super light colors (lavender, white, ultramegaplatinum blonde, etc) are also very prone to getting tinted from minerals, etc in the water. Going that light is definitely really involved and I would honestly say worth the $200 since you can afford it and it sounds like you like it. Especially since you can't un-damage hair. I took the very tips of my hair to platinum myself and had no noticeable damage even with my dark auburn hair but the black dye job I threw over everything definitely fried them a bit so I'm going in for my first pro trim in like 4 or 5 years. I could cut my own split ends but I feel like I would end up cutting it short after throwing up my hands in frustration.
I went to Ulta to get some basics and got pulled in by the Makeup Revolution London stuff. I grabbed the Mermaids Forever palette because it had a good mix of wacky colors plus some nice shiny neutrals and it was $15. Excellent payoff and shades!
I also bought a fitbit Charge HR tonight in the plum color. I started a new job a couple weeks ago and it's great except I found myself losing motivation to get to the gym. Other benefits like heart rate monitoring, gamifying exercise, and stuff like that would be good for me. Maybe a little bit of shame and buzzing and trying to compete with a thing on my wrist will do me good and make me push myself just a little more.
It's not often that I have the chance to paint my nails, because powerlevel, but here they are. What I like to do is layer extremely thin layers of color on top of shimmery ones.

That looks great! I do the same... it's like I've suddenly got ten times more nail polish than I already do. I also have a neon yellow that will either make something look like someone ate a rainbow of highlighters and then puked or make the most amazing neon color you've ever seen.
This just reminded me it's been like a whole month since I've done my nails lol
Sometimes when I'm running low on 2 colors I'll mix them together into one bottle. I made a really nice shimmery black polish with gold flecks in it that way. (I also tried to make a matte polish by adding corn starch to one and that one didn't end well)
If anyone wants their hair to grow longer faster, try Mane n' Tail conditioner . The shampoo isn't anything special but the conditioner really made my hair super soft (which is hard because I'm Hispanic so my hairs naturally wirey) and made it grow like an entire fucking inch in the first month of using it. No joke it works wonders! /and if you have horses, this product can also be used on them too oddly enough!/ it's about $5 a bottle at any given drug store so check it out!

I did that to a cherry red and a pale pink-gold shimmer a few years ago. It turned into a disco pink, which I hardly like to wear either. More recently, I mixed a pinkish shimmer with beige. The result is the second nail pic I attached in my previous post.

If you can get your hands on a bottle or Pravana Pure Light shampoo, do so. It kicks the shit out of every purple shampoo I've ever tried. I wouldn't recommend you use purple shampoo every day, though. It can dry your hair out really bad. I would get something targeted to daily blonde care and use the purple shampoo once a week, followed by a mask of some kind.
Or, alternately, you could use a gentle clarifying shampoo to get out product buildup and any minerals from your water, etc. (my current favorite is the Label.M Deep Cleansing shampoo) and a purple-toning conditioning treatment, as-needed. I've heard great things about Overtone color and they have both a pastel purple and a silver mask. They might be a little more pigmented than you need, but you could just mix them half-and-half with your regular conditioner to cut them down a bit.
I've used Skin79 BB creams (the hot pink, orange, Intense Classic, The Prestige Diamond, and Absolute Total, which was my favorite out of all of them but it doesn't appear to be available anymore) and Missha's M Signature Wrinkle Filler, and they were all pretty good. Some were a bit too dark for my skin tone, but I'm neon-white and foundation always pulls dark on me. I'll probably switch back when I'm out of the stuff I'm using right now.
My only issue was that they're all really heavily fragranced. It didn't ever irritate my skin, which is odd because normally I'd be breaking out everywhere, but the smell was really noticeable and took a while to dissipate. It's still kinda worth it though, because I could just use them with some setting powder and I'd be good.
Yes. I use Korean and Japanese skincare and makeup products a lot. Here are my recommendations:
Tonymoly Egg Pore steam balm and tightening cooling pack (when I use this in combination with that Aztec clay stuff my blackheads are GONE)
Tonymoly I'm Real sheet masks
Biore Aqua Rich Watery Essence sunscreen (the best damn facial sunscreen I've ever used, and I've tried expensive Western ones and haven't found one with quite the same finish)
Kate designing eyebrow n ex-4 (I have bleached eyebrows and the blonde shades in this pallette match my eyebrows perfectly and have been one of the few truely blonde eyebrow powders that I've found)
Missha magic cushion foundation (bb cream in air cushion form, has SPF, I find the shades match the orange undertone of my skin well and feel lightweight)
Dr. Jart silver label BB cream (expensive but the finish is so natural looking and it doesn't cause me to become oily quickly)
I've started using The Body Shop's Tea Tree oil wash and moistrizer for a while now, and it clears up any blemishes I have, but dries my skin out. Do you guys have any advice?

Body Shop tee tree oil, been there, can still feel the burning
For serious though I have really sensitive skin, and although tea tree oil and salycillic acid etc. helped in the short while it totally wrecked my skin over time. The Body Shop's aloe Vera day/night creams worked really well for me if you want to stick with that face wash, they're really gentle moisturising but are also kinda pricey. If you want to change brands though the best face wash I've ever used is hands down "Yes to Cucumbers". It always leaves my skin super soft without having to moisturise and is gentle enough to be used everyday. Honestly I find a good facial cleanse everyday followed up by a weekly exfoliant (St. Ives or Lush's Sea Salt scrubs are my recommendations) works much better for skin quality than products specifically for that. Like I said I have pretty awkward skin though so maybe that's just me haha.

Thank you! I've been using Lush's Sea Salt for exfolianting my skin once in a while, along with a nightly first aid beauty toner/exfoliator pad for a while now. I really like REN's moisturizer, so i may switch back to their clay wash, or dump my tea tree moisturizer and use the wash with the REN brand moisturizer
For more information about skincare and Asian beauty products, try /r/asianbeauty, /r/skincareaddiction, and /cgl/'s skincare and makeup threads. I find all of these helpful

If you're using a cleanser with a drying/antiseptic ingredient like tea tree oil, you don't really need toner. Toners are really great as an "I'm too tired/lazy to go through my whole routine" product (after removing makeup, of course!) but it's not something you need every day unless your skin is excessively oily. Just like, unless you're extremely dry, you don't need moisturizer during the day, only SPF.
Is your skin oily, or just acne-prone? It's possible that you might be over-stripping your skin a bit. My face used to be covered in zits but once I stopped using acne-targeted products, I cleared right up and now I just get the odd cystic bump once in a while (as opposed to lots of smaller pimples in addition to cystic bumps). It's funny that @Nyx suggested Yes to Cucumbers because that gel cleanser saved my face a few years ago. It's great for the price and I might switch back when I run out of my current stuff.
(Sorry, this is just one of the things I went to school for... I don't get to flex my esthetician muscles very often, since I don't work in the treatment room and most of my customers work with hair. I'm not trying to do a consultation via the internet, I swear, lol.)
