You could try using https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp instead, it appears to be better at bypassing the age-gate.

NewPipe on android is also good, no account needed and offers audio and video downloads, bookmarks/subscriptions to channels and background play. Its supposed to play age restricted videos but I just checked the latest version and appears to be busted. I remember reading somewhere that they are in a constant cat and mouse with youtube to keep it working with updates so worth keeping an eye on the github.
