Glitch really marketed TADC like it was the savior of indie animation. It's because of Glitch that everyone and their grandma is titling their animated shorts "pilots."

People gave the writing the benefit of the doubt while latching onto the characters. Even as an ensemble series, it doesn't give people what they want. Its success is upheld entirely by the fandom that consists of people who max out credit cards to buy blind boxes and cringy graphic tees.

The marketing and constant merch drops really framed it as a highly professional, polished product.

I feel like now that the initial shock is over, PPP is sort of just depression maxxed, and I'm at a loss over how pointless and poorly constructed everything is

well i think the interesting part about you two watching it isnt to see which part you like/hate or even why you like/hate it, but rather you guys' unique attempt at trying to understand why something like this is so dogmatically beloved by millions and millions of various ages, various genders, and various cultures. this was essentially an overproduced youtube video and somehow theres (atleast) one restaurant in japan, the finale was originally supposed to play in a few selected theatres in the USA but Glitch suggested fans to email theatres near them to show the movie, and now even my local theatre (small city in europe) is showing the finale too. what you said about so many things being referneces made a lot of sense, it's like a derivative of a derivative of immensely popular things and TADC is a lot of younger fans' first exposure to these things so they just assume that it's an incredibly intelligent work of art. I also think gooseworx managed to convince midwits that the series is more intelligent than it is with minor foreshadowing, like kinger's schizo babble about bugs and etymology in episode 1 and then in episode 3 he reveals his wife used to be into etymology, y'know something for 14 to point at and scream "oh my god its all planned out!!!! everything is so meticulously constructed!!!! i need to rewatch this 50 times to find all the secret hints!!"

I kinda don't like how how detached PPP is through the watchalongs because it kinda undercuts what digital circus has become. its like someone watching star wars in the 80s and saying "what?? this is just dumb space wizards who gives a shit about any of this? who would watch this shit?" (though star wars was original while TADC is just reference hell, but i mean in terms of cultural impact)
