I was very dissapointed by how vomparatively normal Mixtape was. It's well put together, feels.like it has true passion put into it, and isn't overtly degenerate. You have to look into it pretty hard to find the trouble.

I really don't think it deserved the amount of kudos it got, but I think it does deserve to be held as the best in its weight class. I can absolutely imagine hearing about this game again in 10-15 years from reasonable people who played it and really enjoyed it at a young age.
Sucks the game is the creator's AGP wish fulfillment, because if it wasn't for that I think it would probably change my perspective on this side of games.

The moral still stands:
Music will make or break creative works.
An excellent soundtrack will take a okay movie/game to be excellent ittself. Mixtape's benefit is that they lifted already excellent music that many people hold to be nostalgic already, mixed with the nostalgic themes of the plot it did resonate very well. If Mixtape used LIS style soundtracks I think the lasting impression would have been completely different.

I can easily and instantly see the parallels with Brütal Legend; Mixtape has a substantive art style that looks like Tim Schaefer had a hand in art direction or character design, but Brutal Legend definitely benefits from having a fantasy setting & comedy to lean upon. Both games have great soundtracks, but Brutal Legend tries to be too many different games at once(open world driver/action combat exploration/multiplayer RTS???/narrative game) while Mixtape doesn't even try to be a game. At least with a movie game like Dragon's Lair, you have entertaining failstates, death animations. Mixtape wants to force-funnel you from the start to the end in a predetermined timeframe with no variation or deviation, and if you have other ideas or want to dally, that's not what we planned chud.

Megan Ellison is a Hollywood failure and it shows. If Mixtape were good, it'd be an on-par work to put up against The Breakfast Club or Ferris Beuller's Day Off. It's not even close. She fumbled multiple Hollywood jobs and tried making a "game," where just about any failure can float and get someone to say "good jerb" for a relatively paltry sum. It will never make its money back. It sucks shit as a so-called "game," and its internet footprint forever has dogshit smeared on it.

The difference with other walking simulators like The Stanley Parable is that that guy, Davey Wreden(who I don't cut any slack with due to his ties with Zoe Quinn and the other indie fags) understood "I can't make it in Hollywood. But I CAN do stuff in a game engine like Source; I can make a character walk, and levels and doors, and I can trigger voicelines on reaching trigger spots" and so he set out to make a game first, in a game engine with the things he was capable of, and wrote in his weird ideas in second. There's not a lot to The Stanley Parable, but there's enough you make you go "hmm" and it's not a complete waste of your time. There's multiple paths and you can take as deep or as shallow of a dip as you want.

There have been a few schizoposts in the thread isolating background noise of children and maybe a cat. I have my doubts on neighbors being loud enough to go through multiple sets of walls, sound insulation and the distance between the trailers but who knows, its Florida (maybe) and a "prefabricated home community" is probably not known for the classiest of neighbors.
Regardless, him confirming, denying or explaining away any of these claims is a bad move opsec-wise so everyone will just have to live in suspense.

I mean are we really surprised that there are people on this website that will isolate background noise to determine what it is? Looking into minute environmental details like that seems to be standard operating procedure. That said, I can see if he has a window open or there are some neighbor kids playing literally right outside of his office that it's possible they could be heard. Kids aren't exactly known for being quiet. That's honestly what I thought it was the first time I heard it.

It honestly just seems like a game for teens and people a little older (like 21), but it's audience ended up to be people pushing into 30s. For me the weirdest shit is AGP and the fact it's a 20 dollar game for ~2 hours. I watched some of the critique videos and most of people seem to be saying shit like....................... The teen drama game is about teen rebellion? I feel like both sides hate the game and love the game for retarded reasons and don't seem to understand that they're not an intended audience for a zany teen drama story.

Mixtape was very fun to watch. Surprisingly well made game too. Any political ideology bleeding through was subtle enough for me to not perceive it as obnoxious. They really fucked up with the completely unnecessary 12 FPS model shit though. I can guarantee that a lot of people immediately refunded it because of that.
