Consensus shifted that it actually is a woman, just a really fuckin big one. The post on xitter was updated to include this:

so I got curious and went to see if I could find any social media and found an Instagram account for her. Aside from the height she looks like a pretty average looking black lady. There's a bunch of replies under some comments that disappear when I try to view them. Anybody know how to make those visible?

Another fun fact, it was built for helium but we didn't want to give balloon gas to the nazis so they used hydrogen instead, which gave it additional lift vs design.

Additionally the Hindenberg was a Zeppelin and not a blimp. Blimps are large balloons, Zeppelins have a series of internal balloons contained inside of a metal skeleton that forms the structure for the outer material to be wrapped over, and were much larger. The airships used for warfare in World War I were Zeppelins.
