I think if the lc threads were still around there would be more activity, especially around the time of the ex-girlfriend reveal.
i know for a fact that the schizo luigi threads on lolcow would have a field day with the ex girlfriend reveal… those threads were desperate for new milk once the old news started to run dry. they would harp on everything and anything (myself included kek)
“
Imagine if that commitment were directed toward actual healthcare advocacy. Imagine if those hours were spent organizing, lobbying, building power to change the systems that everyone claims to be so angry about.” i have a lot to say about this
i shit you not. these were my immediate thoughts upon hearing about luigi’s case and the attention surrounding him. i always thought him attractive and somewhat of an interesting spectacle, like everyone else, but the idealization and obsession over him (mainly by stupid, liberal women… let’s be honest) because of his ostensible valour made me incredibly angry from the get-go.
i was also initially skeptical because luigi’s general history and background did not align with his actions… he showed 0 prior interest in legitimate activism, the healthcare industry, wealth disparity in the US, etc. his social media presence across twitter, substack, and goodreads evinced the prototypical mind of a white, upper-class, tech bro.
there were even ridiculous rumors flying around about his family’s unfortunate experience with US healthcare; blind supporters stating that his mother and grandparents were “tortured” by UHC… that their claims were denied by insurers and they were refused healthcare service. obviously, none of this was true. luigi was never even a UHC client. it was all just one, massive cope by some of his supporters who attempted to find sense in his actions but couldn’t establish any real justification. at the time, the only reason that
somewhat made sense was that luigi’s lower back injury drove him to the brink of insanity (and most lc users were eventually convinced that his back issue is/was not as serious as initially assumed).
at one point, seeing how popular luigi was on reddit, and how many faggots literally worshipped him (again: claiming to be champions of healthcare reform, but in reality, were truly fixated on his looks, and portrayed him as some pop-culture icon instead of a murder defendant), i actually made a post questioning this behavior. i asked “im confused as to why people keep sending thousands-millions of dollars to luigi mangione’s legal team, when he’s already considerably wealthy, and such large amounts could be better spent elsewhere— maybe by sending it to those in need who are sick, or on some type of healthcare reform advocacy.” i was downvoted to hell, kek. plebbit retards commented that helping US citizens in “individual cases” wouldn’t extrapolate to long-term healthcare reform, and that by funding luigi’s legal team, they were making a “broader” and “stronger” statement to the US government at large. i am by no means an active reddit user, but the conspicuous hypocrisy from western liberals was infuriating to watch. it still is. it’s also fucking retarded to see these people turn a blind eye to luigi’s transparent right-wing beliefs— beliefs that they’d berate anyone else for. they either ignore it, or make excuses for his “ignorance”. additionally, he’s never done shit for anyone else, despite his family having fuck tons of money. they say nothing about that either. if he were ugly, it would’ve been over for him by now.
now this might be a stretch, but… luigi’s bpdemons continue to follow and worship him because he’s their closest approximation to someone who represents normalcy. despite how obviously fucked up luigi is, he maintained a very desirable background— decent looking, upper class, wealthy, nice family, well educated, etc. then he fucking snaps and kills someone, supposedly for reasons of morality and justice. to the loser, bpdemon liberals, this is gold. someone who’s supposedly intelligent, attractive, and has a lot going for him has carried out their social-justice fantasies. suddenly, someone who’s successful and well-to-do feels
just like them.
they cling to luigi’s image and actions because internally, they feel like they can truly relate to him. imo, they’re subconsciously proud to believe they share the same values as someone who’s rich, handsome, educated, and deeply privileged. they covet the exact traits and characteristics that they claim to despise. at least, that’s how i’ve interpreted their parasocial relationship w luigi.
Will the defense deny the crime altogether or go for a mental illness angle?
i think the mental illness angle is what they might resort to because nothing else will work when the odds are so stacked against him. he’s definitely going to be convicted… i just don’t think he’ll receive the death sentence
