His early stuff has a lot of weird, borderline sadistic moments, and even though journalists often have to betray their subjects' trust to write a story, him using the offer of a personal relationship as leverage with desperate people always came off pretty scummy. Then there's the Savile stuff.
Plus, he's not even good at his job. Compare his 2015 "My Scientology Movie" to Gibney's "Going Clear" from the same year.

Nick made a mistake by letting Louis film inside of his studio, it ruined the illusion that he had an actual Fox News-tier set. I knew rationally that he almost definitely was using special effects, but my headcanon of his set still included a panoramic view of the Chicago skyline until I saw the green screen and had the mental image permanently destroyed. But more than just being fake, it was a fucking closet.

Louis and his team used a lot of subtle tricks to make Fuentes and co. look pathetic and amateurish at times while dangerous at other times (low angle, Riefenstahl style shots at the conference).
But I still cannot believe how supposedly media-savvy Baked and Nick let Louis a-mog them like this even in banal promotional photos for which they conciously had to pose. Louis already towered over them at like 6'2, but then they allow themselves to be photographed in forced perspective with Louis closer to camera than them. Making Baked and Nick look like garden gnomes or children next to Louis.
Peter Jackson used this camera trick to make the hobbit actors in LoTR look smaller in comparison to the rest of the cast. Bodybuilders call this practice 'outangling', where you position yourself or parts of your body closer to the camera in order to 'amog' or 'mog' the person you are in the picture with. This is basic stuff.
What was Nick thinking in signing up for this?
