I don't know how many fans of Dr Who there are around here, but news has broken after months of rumors that the BBC has successfully recovered missing and thought to be lost episodes of Doctor Who from its black and white era in the 1960s. Over 100 episodes had been lost due to the BBC's policy of wiping and destroying prints no longer thought to be of value. Thankfully, many copies were made and sent overseas for transmission, though it was thought that the well had run dry on the return front. Now, after a years long international search, at least a dozen, and perhaps as many as 100 of the 106 missing episodes of the series have been recovered. Some will be ready for download as early as a week from now. For anyone who is a fan of the original 26 year run of the show, this is a staggering and monumental find.

This was discussed in chat a few days ago and there's quite a few Dr. Who fans going over the possibilities of what's been found on here T.M.

When I was a kid I liked some of the episodes and went to a convention at the local basketball arena one time with my dad, so I might have to watch some of these and refresh what I used to watch of the series back then once more.

Tube...You won't be seeing me for a few weeks. I have some of the Doctors adventures to watch.

I'm fortunate to have a connection within the BBC, and can confirm that The Enemy of the World, The Web of Fear, and Marco Polo have been returned. I've heard that more from season 3 has also been found in Africa, as well as Pat Troughton's first story, Power of the Daleks. Some have damage that needs to be repaired before they are made available. We should get an official announcement from the BBC on Thursday.

My friend who is obsessed with that show is totally geeking out

Power of the Daleks...please be power of the Daleks

Or Evil of the Daleks

Or Fury from the Deep

I can vouch for Power being found. No idea when they'll announce it though. There is a lot of behind the scenes politics for some stupid reason.

This is actually pretty cool news. Not too big on the Doctor (I only have second-hand knowledge about him), but this is still pretty cool.
