Lori Loughlin

Mossimo Giannulli, the fashion designer and husband of actress Lori Loughlin, was sentenced on Friday morning to five months in prison for his involvement in a college admissions cheating scam that allowed his two daughters to gain admission into the University of Southern California.
Giannulli must also serve two years on probation, pay a $250,000 fine and serve 250 hours of community service as part of his sentencing. Loughlin’s sentencing will take place later on Friday afternoon. His sentence will begin on Nov. 19 before 2 p.m. ET.

U.S. District Judge Nathaniel Gorton, in accepting Giannulli’s plea deal, said the prison sentence stipulated under the sentencing guidelines “is sufficient but not greater than necessary punishment under the circumstances.” Unlike most plea agreements where the Judge is free to decide sentencing, Loughlin’s and Giannulli’s proposed prison terms were binding as long as the judge accepted the deals.

“I deeply regret the harm that my actions have caused my daughters, my wife and others,” Giannulli said in accepting the sentencing. “I take full responsibly for my conduct. I’m ready to accept the consequences and move forward.”
In handing down the sentencing, Gorton said Giannulli “has no excuse” for his crime.
“You are an informed, smart successful businessman. You certainly did know better, and you helped sponsor a breathtaking fraud on our system of education and involved your wife and two daughters in cheating and faking their ways into a prestigious university,” the Judge said. “You are not stealing bread to feed your family. You have no excuse for your crime and that makes it all the more blameworthy.”
Loughlin is expected to face two months in prison, two years of supervised release, a $150,000 fine and 100 hours of community service.

The couple was arrested last year after federal prosecutors said they had paid $500,000 in bribes to USC officials to get their two daughters admitted as recruits for the crew team, despite the fact that neither daughter had ever played the sport. After months of fighting the charges and maintaining their innocence, Giannulli and Loughin pleaded guilty in May to one count of conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud and honest services wire and mail fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud, respectively.
Last year, actress Felicity Huffman was the first parent to be sentenced as part of the college admissions scam, dubbed “Operation Varsity Blues.” After pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud, Huffman was given a 14-day prison sentence. She was given an early release after serving out 11 of her 14 days in prison.

Hoping for 10 months+ for Lori Loughlin. 🙏

edit, according to wikipedia "Sentenced to 2 months in prison, two years of supervised release, a $150,000 fine and 100 hours of community service."

Spoiled rich people doing spoiled rich people things to ensure their kids grow up into spoiled rich people... This happens constantly, it's how the world works. What is it about college admissions that makes it such a big deal?

It's a prestige thing

Because in many of those colleges, people actually work hard to get accepted or get into very big debt to be able to pay it. And then these assholes come and just need a couple of calls to get their darlings accepted, even when such darlings aren'v even interested in first place.

Put it this way: do I mind that rich people have access to a better education or healthcare they can pay? No. If you can pay for it, do whatever you want to do. But if I'm in line in the supermarket and some rich ass tries to cut in line, I don't care if he bathes in gold and owns four houses, he's out of line and I'm gonna be mad.

I totally agree but I really meant why does the law finally care about THIS of all things?

Between the bribes, the lawyer fees, the fines, the lost income, the wasted time, and damaged reputations, this debacle has cost them millions upon millions of dollars...all to get their aimless, dimwitted party girl daughters (who directly told their parents that they wanted to go to Arizona State and have fun, not study!) into USC. And one of their daughters was already raking in lots of her own money through a successful Youtube channel before this was uncovered and she got canceled, lmao. Talk about hubris, overweening pride.

Their daughters also graduated from the same $$$ private high school in Bel Air that the Kardashians attended. Seems like the academics there are a little suspect, or perhaps the school looks the other way when it comes to its wealthier students as long as there are promises of hefty donation checks. (Not at all surprising if so.)

LOL, she was probably more involved in this, yet he got a harsher sentence. Either way, they both got sweetheart deals. If there was any real justice in the world, they would have both gotten a minimum sentence of 5 years. Martha got more time for doing less.

What pisses me off is that their kids would probably just spend most of their time partying and going to social events instead of, you know, actually trying to learn anything, compared to someone who probably busted their asses to just get the opportunity for this college to even give their application a passing glance.

Granted, I don't know their kids personally, but if this guy was dumping half a million to ensure his daughters got in, then obviously he didn't have a lot of faith in them to get accepted biased on their own merits.

The daughters flagrantly said that socializing is the only reason why they would/should attend college. As I wrote in an earlier post, the parents wanted the girls to attend USC for "prestige" while the girls told them that they wanted to go to Arizona State, a party school.

Olivia Jade, the youngest daughter, showed a lot of indifference for college in a Youtube video before the scandal leaked:

Giannulli's most telling vlog on this subject is titled "basically all the tea you need to know about me (boys, college, youtubers)," and was filmed right before she started school at USC — she missed her first week due to vague influencer commitments in Fiji. Giannulli received heavy criticism for the video, in which she casually declares that, "I don't really care about school, as you guys all know," and admits she's uncertain how many classes she'll actually attend. The top comment: "You can tell she's spoiled by her intentions with school. Some people would give anything for a college education and she's just going for game days and parties."

Giannulli later apologized for being insensitive, but she has never taken to college life. In a recent interview unearthed by Buzzfeed, Giannulli literally admits that she was forced to attend against her will, saying that "mostly my parents really wanted me to go because both of them didn't go to college." In several vlogs she admits she doesn't want to use the dorm room showers, instead retreating to her elder sister's (presumably luxe) off-campus apartment. In February, she tweeted that "YouTube will always be my #1 passion. I promise I'd way rather be filming 24/7 than sitting in 6 hours of classes straight."

She's going to do the easiest time ever. No warden is going to risk getting fired and their prison shut down because aunt Becky got her hair ripped out and her face rearranged by some cholas. They'll hide her in a private "cell" for 2 months and get her the hell out of there asap.
