Looking for a style of folk art - Marquetry?

I'm looking for a specific type of religious art that my grandparents used to have and could use some help. These were probably pre-WWII pieces. They were framed, had a black background, and the art was religious iconography made with straw or perhaps wood. The closest thing I've been able to find is religious marquetry but that's a broad art method to search through and none of the art quite fits. Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about?

This indeed, but I'm getting all sorts of random inlay woodworking which is also marquetry. I'm looking specifically for a source of religious imagery and just coming up with the same few pieces.

So when I just searched "straw marquetry" I got a bunch of inlay as well . I tried "straw marquetry religious" and "straw marquetry Jesus" and got more that seems a little more dialed-in.

Are you looking for someone who makes this type of art now, or the "vintage"/60s religious things, or just images, or for noted makers, or...?

Found various contemporary artists but not really focused on religious imagery. Found a few religious-themed items on proantic.com, and (mainly for showcasing if you're interested) there's thestrawshop.com (with some pretty amazing straw holy doors from Belarus, decorative eggs, an incredibly intricate table owned by the Marquis de Lafayette, and some fairly elaborate 18th c embossed straw religious art), in addition to the basic Etsy stuff.

And if shopping, I saw listings of religious straw marquetry art at Anticstore, ebay, worthpoint, druout, and other auction sites.

This appears to be a modern studio producing religious-themed straw marquetry.

I may be of no help to you, but I've now learned about something I wasn't particularly aware of as a distinct artform, so thanks.

I have now learned that straw marquetry dates in the West back to 17th c France. And that Deco-era creators included Paul Poiré, André Groult and Jean Michel Frank.

Atelier Lison de Caunes (Lison de Caunes is the grand-daughter of Andre Groult) and has a modern high-end studio.

The process is cool.

And Google is more efficient than I realized - this thread also came up on page 2 of a search of "religious straw marquetry."

Once again I'm amazed by how much new information I've learned from this site...

I found a video showing what the process of making a straw egg is like. This is definitely a craft that takes a lot of patience! if it's not relevant I'll remove but I just thought it would be a nice addition to add.
