It's fucking disgusting but every once in a while I crave the clams or the shrimp. Their malt vinegar is good I put that shit one everything.


LJS needs to get in on the chicken sammich war. I bet they'd make the best one.
 
Never ate at one, always saw their commercials, never plan to.

Fast food seafood already sounds like an anal disaster waiting to happen.

Out of my curiosity, didn't Long John Silvers die out because of a combination of sushi gaining more popularity and people trusting seafood made at mom and pop or upper scale restaurants, and especially if they get their catch straight from the fishermen who do their trawling out off the coast?
 
Their food is greasy and horrible but if I am really craving fish and there is one close by I will get a 2-piece fish combo. Ngl I actually like their hush puppies but those are extremely hard to fuck up anyway.
 
I don't live in the US, but LJS fish is the one fast food thing that I genuinely miss. Douse that shit in malt vinegar, and try to ignore all of the grease that you're sucking down in the process. The clam strips and shrimp are pretty dope too, but I can't stand the chicken, because it's too dry.

If you're in the South, Captain D's is a pretty good competitor to Long John's. And there's Arthur Treacher's, but I haven't seen one of those for at least 15 years... And edit to add that no wonder I haven't seen an Arthur Treacher's forever, apparently there's only one left in existence:

LJS is one of those places where their food is weirdly unique to where nothing else really tastes like it. It's disgustingly greasy to an impressive extent, but it still tastes good in small doses.

But even when I was FAT it still wasn't a place where I'd eat more than like, once a year. I'd probably feel perpetually sickly if I had to eat it more than once a week.

Last time I lived stateside, they had a fish taco that was fairly cheap, and was pretty much the same thing, except instead of mayo they had some sort of mayo-based mildly spicy sauce. Oh, and of course in a tortilla and not a bun.
 
Long John Silvers had some killer fucking chicken with that fish batter. Haven't been to one since I was a kid
 
There's not been a LJS near me since 2007 and consequently I don't remember their food well enough to have a strong opinion on it.
 
Only ever had them once. I remember it being ok (not the biggest seafood fan, and fast food seafood is almost always a no go for me) but when I lived in the PNW there used to be a local chain called Skippers that made some damn good clam chowder. Have a piece of fried halibut on the side and I was a happy kid. Shame they’re not around anymore

every now and then, but even where i am at in florida they are dieing off...everytime i pull up there is like only 1 person working the kitchen
 
LJS restaurants have slowly been disappearing around me within a two-hour radius except for a musty old store about 20 or so minutes away that's somehow slated for a renovation.
 
Oh Long John Silvers...I go there when I'm craving carnival food. Usually I just buy hush puppies and eat those. Funny thing, the shits you get from there? It literally smells just like the kitchen in the joint. I don't know what that says about them, but I get it once in a blue moon when I really want carnival food.
 
I love LJS despite it being fucking disgusting kind of like Taco bell. Being both white trash and raised Catholic, my family would go there all the time during Lent. If you ever go to the south east US, try Captain D's. It kicks shit out of Long Johns.
 
Hard agree on Captain D's being better than LJS, except in one aspect. LJS fills their boxes with these crunchy bits of fried batter that for whatever reason are heart cloggingly godly.
 
There was one in my hometown, but it was combined with an A&W so you could get a root beer and burger with your fish platter. I remember it being okay, good as a one time thing once a year or so. They had specials on talk like a pirate day sometimes so me and the homies would roll up in our renn fest gear like the dorks we were.
