I can't find a thread about live shows, so here's one. Give puzzle pieces if necessary.

What live shows have you seen, what did you like, what did you not like? Do you think there's value in it or is TV good enough?

A little power level to start the thread. Recently I went to a circus for the first time in my life. It wasn't even a big name event like Cirque Du Soleil or Circus of Horrors, just a regular travelling circus. I was in awe from start to finish. The acrobats swinging on ropes, tumblers backflipping through skipping ropes, a woman hanging from her hair shooting a crossbow, dancers covered in lights catching lasers, and more. It's pretty much all I've been thinking about since.

And yet, it's hard to talk about with people because they're either already on board 100%, or they don't seem to get it and will even getting cynical or dismissive about it.

Years ago I saw Walking with Dinosaurs : The Arena Spectacular. The scale and presence of them isn't conveyed on a TV screen. And it's strange how people dismiss it as "guys in suits".

I only like live shows where I can be sure the performer(s) won't try to drag me into some kind of audience participation bullshit and/or end up on stage and on the DVD. So that rules out most standup comedy and circuses, but music shows are mostly safe in that regard (at least large-venue events where I'm just one blip in a big crowd).
