You also can't really tinker with it much, its a very purpose built device and its safety comes more from "using it correctly" as its operating level is already beyond what can just be 'passively safe'. You try to fuck with the cooling or other systems and it's going to explode.
 
I've often wondered if LMG have received fines for occupational health and safety violations? Over the years I've seen Linus in particular do some pretty retarded shit like dangling off tall ladders like a jeet and seems like the relevant Canadian government authority wouldn't be particularly tolerant of.

Good question, apparently nothing. Linus is very disappointed in his purchase at the end of the video as he didn't realize how dangerous it was or how specialized the area it's projecting in needs to be.

They can't get the display to work very well in the warehouse and they don't intend on putting it anywhere else. They can't operate it safely and have very little info on repairing or maintaining it. So Linus said this is probably the only video they will do on it as it is dead hardware with no use for them.

Unlikely. I agree that he's done some dumb things, but unless you've pissed off some local official, it takes actual injury generating events followed by lawsuits to actually get eyes on - There may be city/provincial scale orgs or trade specific enforcement that are more hands on, but I'm not specifically aware of any. However, Canadian law will absolutely fucking ream your ass nine ways to sunday if you allow an 'obvious' safety hazard to lead to an injury, so even the most retarded employers follow the 'basic' precaution requirements. As far as I'm aware, there's not actually inspectors or 3rd parties - CCOHS is our safety org, and its basically a big old thinktank of "we'll put out good ideas" followed by some laws and expectations regarding incident reporting and investigation - Emphasis on the fact that they consider having a supervisor investigate a safety issue to be sufficient. Whole things effectively a series of guidelines and recommendations, not really proactive.

Still, if one of his employees fell off those ladders and was crippled, especially on video being instructed to do so, he'd be on the hook for some incredible payouts and fines. With a full scale warehouse going on as well, he's either stupidly lucky, or actually not fucking it up too bad.

It was apparently an impulse buy. Linus thought it would come in handy at WhaleLan and found out that it would not be feasible while it was already purchased.

Best part is that he originally wanted an IMAX projector but when IMAX found out that one was for sale they sent their goons to destroy it.

Just imagine if he'd gotten it first, and tried to advertise his event as having IMAX visuals only to get raped by IMAX lawyers. They're incredibly defensive about that reputation and wouldn't let someone just half assing it use it.

Honestly, he probably got lucky though, if he though the requirements to use a 'normal' projector were too tight of a constraint for him, IMAX woulda been even worse.
 
lol linus has no self control, this isn't the first time he's impulse bought some old tech that he ended up not using. It's like when he bought that led wall screen. I bet it's just sitting around in the warehouse not being used.

I'll also add that these kinds of arc lamps are extremely sensitive to any surface contamination on the bulb (ie your retarded gooner employee's greasy semen covered hand prints) since it will cause uneven heating or hot spots which can, and will stress shatter the glass.
I can't wait to see here how he tries getting his gaggle of niggercattle to watercool a 400* ball of lightning with CPU waterblocks and Noctua fans. Good luck faggot, better hope they don't get their head blown off.
 
Fun trivia, street lamps used to use arc bulbs, because incandescent bulbs were still in their infancy and gas lamps kind of sucked. From the 1880s to about 1900, many places like parks, town squares, factories, and railway stations were lit by unpleasantly harsh and bright yablochkov candles, a type of carbon arc lamp. They'd last two, maybe three hours before the electrodes burned out and the lamp had to be replaced.
Wonder how many got blinded by those.

I think it shows he's starting to scrape the barrel when he has to put a few minutes in of fixing his john deere lawnmower. Our family has had one running just fine for going on 30 years now with no problems in the hot humid south, only real thing to go bad on it outside of blades and batteries was the starter solenoid so we used a screwdriver to bypass it for a year until we took it to a tractor repair to fix.
