Yeah, a grand total of 20 games missing out on another 30 or 40 titles during what turned out to be the golden era of PC gaming.
I too went down the Wine rabbit hole and determined it was not worth my time. I just installed Windows 2000 (best Microsoft product ever released btw) and called it a day. Got to enjoy hardware 3D positional audio when it was big (not sure if Linux ever supported it)
This is the basic truth no one on the Linux side never wants to discuss. Linux history is just a long sequence of missed opportunities and wasted potential. And now it is being steered by gross trannies and other leftists into irrelevancy just like the Mozilla foundation. Just look at the age verification controversy. In theory, the Stallman / Open Source ethos should preclude any attempt at compliance but the same lickspittles screeching that x11 developers are Nazis are tripping over themselves to implement it.
If you're just going to fall into lockstep, why would anyone use your product instead of Microsoft's jeetcode?

I agree with you on these points. It was a pita back then (3d audio was supported btw) and win2kpro was the best MS product.
The wine rabbit hole did turn out to be worth my time. Got a lucrative career out of it.
Worrying about tranny this or that that this forum sometimes gets way too invested in is loser shit. Letting others control you is loser shit, so avoiding something because someone you don't like uses it is loser shit. Just use what works for you.

I feel like a lot of people who run Linux consider managing an operating system as a hobby of theirs, which is fine, but I have shit to do. I just want my OS out of my way and Windows works without needing anything extra 99.999% of the time after minimal setup.
I don't have time to fuck around with bootleg ass video/photo editing tools, I need business capable software to do actual work and those are on Windows or MacOS. Most people are in similar situations with what they do.

Since we are just talking about Linux now.
I have a main windows pc, a steamdeck and Linux laptop. Linux is fine for gaming and most tasks. Linux is just not great if you need to do anything 2D like photoshop, Clipstudio, Illustrator etc. Dont use Gimp in any case. You can get a bettter experience using Photopea in the webbrowser. You can use Krita but haven't used it much and probably has retarded stuff too (atleast the userinterface isnt as bad as gimp but thats a low standard).
For 3D you can use Linux with Blender and Adobe substance painter that have Linux versions so no complains there I even moddeled and animated an simple scene on my steamdeck lol.
For office work you can use Linux since word processing has been figured out for 40 years.
The only real issue I noticed with Linux mint is that my keyboards lags after putting it to sleep mode for a while. Really weird bug that I've tried to fix with the help of AI but it still happens sometime. I dont had this with my dads laptop so It's probably a Fujitsu specific model problem.
I mainly use my Windows PC for drawing, photoshop, high demand gaming and VR stuff. But overal I like Linux pretty much daily use is simple. Not needed to debug stuff outside of that wierd issue. You should try it on a laptop or something and use it as a second pc while keeping your main pc windows.
I think Linux should make the translation of Windows apps easier and more supported. I should just be able to double click the exe and out of the box it sets up wine and does the nessesary things. (Just like how games on steam use proton).
Linux has still flaws but has come a long way since I've tried it the first time.

I fully admit to hatewatching this nigga at this point but it's just so frustrating to see, for as much as he hated Linus' whole retard operations, he's copying him exactly. That could be related to cinnamon slowly creeping on ram over time, but I can't guarantee it, you should give fedora kde or gnome a try since those two desktop environments are the most polished, so you can try if it happens there too.
As a rule of thumb, if you're having weird hardware issues with a long term distro, you should try a more up to date one.
Personally besides gaming and coding, I've only ever lightly edited some videos for my yt channel, I've had good results with kdenlive, but could imagine it wouldn't be sufficient for some more high level projects, I've got a macbook and bought the license for the apple editor, but the UI is so convoluted I have to relearn and search for half an hour the crop and resize transform I do on my videos, so I always come back to kdenlive since it's just super easy and fast to do the edits and render the video.

Well, frankly as retarded as Linus's operations are, they work. Even hatewatching the content will drive engagement and every asshole and ballwasher giving their opinions or advice gets him that little bit closer to making more than pennies on the platform.

It's moreso that companies that have elitist attitudes towards Linux also have elitist attitudes towards their consumers so their games naturally devolve into dei slop. Also Linux gamers being a minority are also more active. Kinda like a cult. The cult of Linux gaming is always playing games and talking about playing games on Linux in order to spread Linux gaming into the cultural zeitgeist and potentially add a new sheep to its flock who will be loyal to Linux gaming to his death like all the other devout Linux gaming worshippers.
Meanwhile Linux dominates literally every major it industry so while gaming sucks on the platform if you're doing anything actually useful to society you're probably doing something on Linux anyway. Especially with AI and web development, since all ai and decent web applications start on Linux and if you're using windows you use wsl (this is for actual jobs like for Gemini. I know you can run comfyui and ollama on native windows just fine.) The most common GPU is also the 5070 ti because it used to be (before November 2025) the 1080 ti of today (price-performance king)

Worked in a tire shop and the milwaukees lasted about 2 weeks during tire change season until you had to start using rubber bands to hold the battery on the impact wrenches to stop the battery from wiggling and the tool cutting out. They still kept buying them though since the boss had some deal where he could get 2 for 200 or something when the consumer price for a single one was ~250. I guess that's how milwaukee became so popular among tradesmen so quickly.
I locked in to makita 10+ years ago with my home gaming tools which is kinda stupid considering their price, but then again the one step cheaper option is ryobi and I've tried my step-dads ryobi tools and they actually feel awful to hold and use. And my cheapest garbage tier chinese made makita drill from over a decade ago is still running strong other than needing a little hit when changing to speed 2.
