Tell me you've never had to have braces without telling me you've never had braces.

Idk about the new technology (invisalign, etc.) or whatever they have now, but when I had braces anytime they adjusted that shit my entire face hurt like hell for the next week. Someones a retard here, either its you for thinking someone would wear braces as a fashion statement or if you're correct then its Linus. Because anytine they adjust those things theyre basically just wrenching directly on your teeth and the bones of your face.

I've had both. Braces put more constant pressure on your teeth because they are pushing further. Where as with invisalign they are very gradual with you switching the pair out each week, so they only hurt for the first day or two after switching, sometimes not even hurting at all but other times the jump between pairs is bigger and it hurts for a bit longer.

I don't get why Linus wouldn't have gotten invisalign instead of full braces, they are far less invasive and easier to deal with IMO, unless the upkeep of having to keep your teeth clean when putting them on and needing to remove them to eat was just too much effort for him

Is anything Linus touches actually even meant to be successful long term? He seems to just use their announcements as opportunities to get asspats and then only pays attention to them when someone else brings them up. Maybe they're just fronts for tax evasion / money laundering and Linus is just the useful idiot who's face they (they as in his wife / relatives / actually smart LTT employees) use to legitimize it.

Labs is in the youtuber equivalent of development hell and I don't see it becoming successful given the obvious rift between "writers" who can't write an informative or relatable video to save their lives and the faceless interns inputting numbers into chatgpt to produce the Labs' "reviews". Does it really look like any of the lolsorandom zoomer writers will care about testing methodologies and numbers over memes and references to homosexuality?

There have been ample opportunities where huge testing infrastructure could've been used to create unique videos but LTT has done an amazing job of dodging every one of them. Things like CPU sample variation testing, the latest exploding GPU power cable / mobo / PSU could've been great catalysts to bring the labs to the mainstream but instead they were capitalized on by much smaller channels with much smaller teams.

Floatplane looks and feels like an LTT pet project rather than a youtube alternative and probably should've been shut down after they decided to not capitalize on the golden opportunity that the covid lockdowns offered. They had a literal once in a lifetime opportunity to grow a video platform and they squandered it. If Luke really is responsible for it, he either lost his will to work on it looong ago or curses Linus every day for keeping it out of the sun.

From the outside, Linus seems to be the worst kind of "Nice" boss. He puts too much trust into unproven people to reach well outside their wheelhouse - The labs is a great example, he seems like he hired some half decent equipment testers, but none of them are media or marketing people. They're running the labs like you might run a 3rd party validation shop - someone brings them some equipment, they stick it on a list, and walk down that list, putting the equipment through all the machinery they can get their hands on. Unlike a 3rd party validator, they're not actually taking clients for this, there is no comparable payout for 'boring but expected' results, and instead it gets handed to writers who as you pointed out, don't really care.

If Linus had an actual business plan, or hired someone who's job was to run a business plan, they'd recognize that its immediately retarded to run labs like this, and they'd do a novelty and media triage. Every new Nvidia GPU should be hitting the top of the testing stack the moment you get a sample, not for any normal performance stuff but for power management hell, see if you can get something to explode or light on fire. Your attached to a media company, your revenue stream is views and clicks, so you unfortunately have to fish around for high profile failures you can get the drop on.

Linus just seems to be generally willing to give outlier ideas a go, which isn't the worst idea, but fails to put any sort of expectations, deadlines or the like on the org. Something like Labs should have been on a 2-3 year horizon, if they couldn't find a growth path by then it shoulda been shitcanned. There's a huge amount of value tied up in those pieces of testing equipment, but the industry moves fast, it'll hold its value for 3-5 years then crater as newer standards of testing drop and the serious shops start upgrading and flooding the market with their second hand leftovers. If you end up holding the bag too long, its a massive loss.

Floatplane is the same situation, just a bit of a better net outcome. Floatplane was basically "can we cut out youtube as the middleman" as a pie in the sky experiment, and of course the answer was "No". But the result is a decently functional streaming alternative. Luke, as a technical lead, seems to be entirely competent, we're not hearing about constant breaks, fixes, failed rollouts, etc in the floatplane space - some slow development at times, but seems to just be natural resource constraints as opposed to poor allocation or output. Luke, however, is a terrible marketing guy. He seems to run Floatplane as if it can be sold and ran based on its technical feature list, and does basically nothing to outreach audiences or advance creator exposure. The pitch is basically "we're technically comparable to youtube, but discoverability is the talents problem". And if you're a potential watcher, you literally can't even see what's available on the platform without going through a fairly steep commitment wall via signups. This is completely lethal to the platform, and a first year marketing student could have flagged it.

I'm not sure if Linus is just ignorant, or trying to replicate what he tried with presenters. Linus is a rare breed, someone with the energy to be a presenter, the drive and dedication to take on the risk and workload of starting and running a business, and with the business acumen to identify good product and market opportunities and to act on them, although the latter is slipping in the last few years. He seems to be treating the heads of these other spaces the way he treats his attempts to raise presenters - he's giving them the opportunity to cultivate those skills via applied effort. Its just that instead of cringy line delivery in a video, we're getting multi-million dollar misses with dozens of jobs on the line. He seems to assume that everyone is capable of the same combination of things he is, and that stupid premise is driving all this.

What you can get depends on how much correction you need. For a lot of people invisialign is not as effective because they don't put them back in after every snack or drink, so going for braces means less overall time from start to finish of the treatment.

I had braces right when before invisalign started to take off and become a popular alternative. So I have zero experience with them. But the worst part about braces is the retainer you wear afterwards. Lost mine in a lake swimming after I forgot to take them out of my pocket and put them back in after eating, that was $500 bucks down the drain. If he cant handle invisalign those retainers his orthodontist is going to have him wear will be brutal for him.

You get bars put in once the invisalign is done, but they give you a retainer to wear (and a bunch of spares) only at night, not even necessary to wear every night, just to keep your teeth from shifting

Invisalign seems like the obvious choice because his teeth already look 99% fine but then you have to deal with the trays

I think Linus' main issues are:
- he fired/lost all the people that could've done anything with any of that
- he does not give actual decision making power to people who could do fun stuff. Sure Jake did some wild stuff, but they were all to solve a problem Linus had
- he dropped channels that were part of the LTT ecosystem, e.g tech quickies and the game one, mac attack etc. I mostly watched quickie and gamelinked, and youtube showed me every new LTT video too. Now it doesn't show ltt anymore since I don't watch his newer boring stuff
- a lot of the times Linus has no idea what's going on, which also likely means he didn't help the channel managers much and treated things as sort of a corporate job instead of a growing-together type of thing. When it comes to normal jobs yeah you just replace the guy with a better one, but when it comes to YT you're supposed to develop those personalities because that's what people ultimately come for


That last point is my main pet peeve and I think it's a big part of LTTs failure. Sure, it's his name in the company, but the "media empire" he built rests on many people's shoulders now. You can't expect a bajilion views ONLY for Linus. Remove the people that got those additional views, you lose the views

I know many people didn't like Jake or Anthony(was that the fat trannys name?) or others, but many people did and losing them did have an effect on LTT. E.g Anthony was completely incompetent, sure, but that was part of what made it fun. He touted himself as this Linux expert and it was amazing seeing him fail at basic shit. At the same time, you can bet your ass many normies learned about Linux from those videos and that sparked some curiosity and growed the number of people on Linux. Small steps

Linus used to be very genuine and that was fun, but now everything seems scripted. His personality also went to shit because he now thinks of himself as this top 1%er and spends so much time and money on his mcmansions

There are endless pieces of hardware and software he could make cool videos on. Off the top of my head I know there's companies making VR suit type of things with extra pads that vibrate or hit you or whatever to make you feel more immersed, he could make tv channels for his kids with ErsatzTV and teach people about it, maybe use the opportunity to talk about ffmpeg since that's a hot topic too lately, people who do flight simulators have some impressive custom gear they could work on that with their unlimited tools. Sure these might sound boring to many, but this is just random shit I thought about. You'd imagine entire teams of writers and creatives could come up with unique and fun stuff

Maybe a video on the samsung galaxy ring that has the battery swell on the inside, trapping your finger and potentially leaving you without it

There is so much amazing tech out there and so much shit to talk about and show. I don't know, the entire writing team should be fired and they should get actual tech enthusiasts that can properly share the profit. Everyone at LTT is paid in peanuts because of this gay ass corporate structure, no wonder nobody does anything fun or creative

I used to be a fan of LTT and the whole ecosystem so it's quite sad seeing this downfall
