Vewn (a decently well-known animator) recently dropped a live-action short film about lolcow culture called Lifewasters. Well-written? Moralfaggotry? You decide.

The opening scene is good but after that it's weak. The ADHD zoomer editing works in the context of it being this character's documentary but after the opening scene it seems to leak into everything, symbolizing some degradation of psyche, but it honestly just annoyed me. I think as an indictment of cowtipping it works but it's not compelling. "Isn't it weird that you watch weird people online" yeah, but that shouldn't be a revelation to anyone with self-awareness. I thought I knew how it was gonna go at the halfway point (she continues feeding the delusions despite knowing what effect it has and Sparky mentally breaks, committing a heinous crime, the fun of egging him on and making a spectacle of him washing away) but the actual way it progressed was even lamer and less interesting. Concluding with her appearing to get the monkey schizophrenia is really strange, unsatisfying, and proves this is nothing substantive. Yeah, don't pozload my neghole, but nothing is really said to an audience member from the Kiwi Farms besides "isn't it weird that you watch weird people online," like I didn't know that was what I was doing. Concluding with her getting monkey schizophrenia says nothing coherent about anything, what does it mean for this to happen after she's already come clean?

Sparky feels like an analog for Chris but everything in the story besides his character traits feels like it relates distinctly to modern TikTok cultcow shit. Truthfully it seems like it's an amalgam of the author's experience witnessing people talk about lolcows online, and I guess if you're a teenager on TikTok who spends 12 hours a day harassing/stalking some random autist, and you have no idea that you're just as bad as them, then it might be a wake up call. Probably not though those people are off their gourd

edit: WTF is that word filter lol

I like it, but I don't like some of the comments. A lot of them heavily generalize and believe it's all encompassing of archiving cows. I see it more as a warning to not "touch the cheese"/"no trolling plans" and to grow away from being chronically online/making your WHOLE life about archiving a cow or browsing the site. We've seen it happen here with our own celebrities, haven't we? Some of these people become cows themselves. There's a time and a place for everything, but it can't be all the time every day. We can't hold the weight of our lives on a single peg and expect it to hold. I think that's true whether you're autistic or not. Don't waste your life away in one spot doing one thing. Doesn't mean you can't point and laugh at cows, though.

this vid would be funny in a vacuum but the fact that it's a really lame take on CWC makes it suck ass. also he's trying way too hard to do the MDE-style editing with the quirky fonts and transitions and freeze frames

Also, not every lolcow is Chrischan lol.
Chris and others like him are "unique" in that pretty much 100% of interest in them is ironic.
That's not the case for a lot of other cows.

A good example would be Idubbz and Anisa, where +90% of discussion and interest in them is solely based on them being lolcows.
With that said though, there is still like 10% genuine interest and a couple hundred people regularly tuning in to watch unironically.
So the question then becomes, well if you have people watching them ironically and unironically, at what point does either side become "weird"?
I'd argue if the majority of people watching something are doing so ironically, that would put the minority in the "weird" category.

I like the techbro douche boyfriend character. Vewn is very talented, her previous animations were great, Probably worth re-watching for little references like sillypoo's work. Not sure if it's moralfaggotry, considering the humorous ending. Just a vignette.

Taking a look at some of the comments I can't help but get the uneasy feeling that in the near future, we're gonna see an influx of normalfags into this little Lolcow ecosystem on a crusade to "protect the mentally ill". Question is how far will they go?

We're already seeing plenty of Tiktok Zoomers defend Daniel Larson's behaviour simply because of "mental illness" or "autism", will they be willing to do the same for Andy Ditch, Cyraxx or god forbid, Nick Bate?

White knighting and moralfagging are nothing new and that goes all the way back to the early days of CWC. But the hallmark of a real lolcow is that they refuse all help and are incapable of self improvement, so at best all white knighting accomplishes is stopping trolling attempts. And even then, many a white knight has turned against a cow after realizing that they're never going to improve, take advice and get better.

It was also other Tiktok zoomers that egged Larson on and kept Cyraxx in a neverending cycle of gayops and I think that's a big part of the social commentary Lifewasters was making. Basically, "fuck alogs/cowtippers/shite touchers and even us passive observers are all a bunch of damn hyprocrites".
