I know Clint's only been making videos for about 15 years or so, but he looks like a real vintage tech YouTuber at last! The 8-Bit Guy needs to shave his head and grow a beard if he wants to stay relevant.

One of the coolest pieces of tech he ever posted a video about has to be the one of the Timex Datalink watch, which could store and display information like to-do lists, appointments, and alarms and boasted the ability to wirelessly sync with your computer by simply holding it up to your monitor while it played a strobing pattern. All in 1994. Literally decades ahead of its time.

Came across this guy because of some retro reviews, seemed interesting. Then I go through his catalogue and find a Skyrim video, seems a little out of place so I check it out and am subjected to one of the blandest most surface level Skyrim takes I've ever seen. I'm just confused as I'm sure an older retro fan must have some more experience with this series or other RPGs than the average Skyrimbaby playing his baby's first RPG and I suddenly get a suspicion.

TFW I've been watching a shitty ad.

Clint posted an LGR Thrifts video today -- the first video of its type that he's done in several years.

With his beard and shaved head, he looks like his own evil twin.

He saw some cool stuff, and it's nice to see that he's doing well and getting back to normal after the storm hit his house so hard.

I had to do a doubletake at 19:40- where he shows this hilarious item (my picture stolen from an ebay listing for this for $125 rather than $9 as in Clint's brief picture)- a serial/parallel card with included on-board fans.

Don't we all want to save 23,000 watts of electricity annually? I'm just a little skeptical on what the comparison is to determine that claim however.

Over in the 8BG thread, @HootersMcBoobies shared the video Clint posted recently announcing the warehouse he built on his property.

It's interesting. At the start, he sounds very excited about it and very grounded as far as YouTubers go -- taking about how he works from home and tries hard to keep his work life separate from his personal life. That's important for everyone, and I am imagine how challenging it can be for someone in his line of work.

But by the end, he starts to sound really unsure of the whole thing, wondering aloud whether he should have run plumbing to it (It might be helpful to have a water hookup in the space, but you probably don't need a full-on bathroom since his house is just steps away -- though if he has guests for his videos, he might not want them trooping through his home) or ethernet wiring (I think that part is a mistake -- He says he gets a good wifi signal in the space, but a hardwired connection will always be faster and more stable. Plus, some of the hardware he uses may not even have wifi (though anything that old probably shouldn't/couldn't be connected online anyway).).

I hope it works out for him. He seems like a good dude, and I want to see him happy.

Only just watched the video on his storage building. It's a bit much to hoard that much stuff, the vast majority of which he seems to just hold onto to have. It reminds me of this old lady from when I was a kid who had turned her late husband's shop, which was large than Clint's unit, into a massive space to chunk antiques. I hope it leads to more content at least.

Clint's video on turning a Raspberry Pi 3B+ into a DIY PS Classic with RetroPie using the PCSX-ReArmed core was the whole reason why I bought my Pi all the way back in the pre-COVID times. Of course... I tend to emulate basically everything on my desktop computer anyway, so a set-top console thingamajig was redundant at best and wholly unnecessary at worst. Still... that Pi 3B+ is now my AdGuard Home server, and spent at least 3-4 years before that being a Pi-Hole DNS sinkhole with unbound.

While I still do enjoy Clint's content on some measure, I must admit that I haven't really kept up with it in any real sense since... 2022ish? There's only so many times a guy can watch a man gush about Packard Bells before it gets old. I actually found myself more drawn to his content that covers mid-to-late 2000s oddware, like the PDA he wanted that shipped with Windows Mobile, or that Windows Vista PC that was like the size of a calculator. Not only because it's grounded in a frame of reference that I can actually relate to, but also because... it's actually different to what he normally does.

Action Retro does similar shit to Clint insofar as mucking about with Windows 9x-era hardware, but he doesn't strictly limit himself to discussing Windows. To the contrary, he basically covers the Linux side of things. I'm a fucking Linux autist, if my post history didn't already give that away, so watching a guy install the first Arch Linux ever released by Judd Vinet in 2002 on period accurate hardware was... honestly kinda comfy. Yeah, not as aesthetically or sonically pleasing as Clint's setup, but still super interesting nonetheless. Clint's got an entire trove of period accurate hardware configurations, but to my knowledge, he only ever brushed with Linux insofar as discussing RetroPie. Oh well, what can ya do?

I will, however, sincerely appreciate that the community at large never heckled Clint and gave him the heads up back when E3 leaked his personal info.
