I gotta think chip is a different sort from voidburger. I'll say it a million times, the fact that a person has a career and works full time makes a huge difference in their mentality and perspective on life. Even if he's in some artsy job that he lucked into because those kind of jobs can't be effectively pursued with hard work alone, he still puts in his 40 each week (I presume). I don't doubt that void truly believes that she's above being part of the economic machine, but I'm not ready to believe chip buys into it like she does. I've personally known enough neets to see that when you hit your late 20s and haven't held a single job, it removes you from the same stream as the rest of us.
So why does he echo her sentiments? I don't know the man or his life history, but come on, why does a guy ever go too far for a woman who doesn't deserve it... I like the guy but he's got some growing to do if he thinks she's a catch.
