The US likely did back the Khmer Rouge alongside China because of Anti-Vietnam/Soviet geopolitics, but that doesn't change that they were actively pursuing a Communist utopia.
They're both Khmer Rouge flags. Why are they the same flag, but one is lower quality? I don't know.
